Phil, do a search on Google for "Bambi Mode Forscan" - I've read a lot about people enabling the fog lights with high beam on various Ford models by reprograming the BCM using ForScan. I haven't seen anything definitive on it for our year model Kuga though. I need to check the latest version of ForScan with the extended licence to see if that has an option.

(I'm guessing if it enables them with high beam you'd also be able to turn them on with the main (low) beam?)

Some years ago my best one with a Ford dealer was when our SportKa was in for a service there was a long line of service receptionists behind desks dealing with customers, my receptionist said whilst we have the car would you like to have the brake fluid changed for £42 - I immediately replied " You have just been taken to court by trading Standards after a sting and was fined £1,600 for charging customers for brake fluid changes you were not carrying out you are having a laugh - but no thanks"

Every receptionist looked up and then quickly looked down again it was brilliant to watch.

It will make a difference when you decide to sell the car, it will be the first thing the buyer or garage points out in an attempt to reduce the price.
If it was my car I would take them up on their offer to respray them.

Thanks. Well that's good that the facility is available I see. Always done the mod with a relay since my first car with fog lights in 1984 and I include an illuminated switch to allow the facility to be switched off. My first car, a Cortina MK2, had driving lights fitted.

Well I think its a worthwhile mod either a relay or if its via OBD even better, as I personally never use the front foglights in fog, so they dont get used unless I'm going down a friends farm track at night or other similar routes. The mod was taken up by many in the Mondeo MK3 and 4 section of Talkford forum.

Interesting you say putting dip beams on too, that was an additional mod which became known as the BIG FLASH, only for use on non HID headlights. When the high beams were flashed, the dip beams and foglights came on too (wakes the alternator up from its sleep). The Kugas main beam lamps are pretty poor and simply fulfil the requirement of having a main beam even though they are useless. Grateful for the HID's.. and I'm convinced in daylight some drivers do not see me flashing them as I give them the right of way. Fogs may now help.

When looking at the links for Bambie mode, I see someone has stated what I've always said the only time you want foglights on is the only time you want main beams on too, when visibility is reduced. Paradoxically, in fog they dont aid at all of course. As to the people who drive on front fogs only, in fog, well happy bumps.

I know its off the Glove box topic but why else would you want to get behind the glove box other than change a fuse (not easy with the box in place) or admire the wiring harnesses.Smile

Slightly off topic, are Ford the only ones that have the cheap look of halogen lamps with HID headlights?

Many years ago took a Mondeo in for service & MOT at Ford dealership ,needed new font disc's . wife picked car up and said when she touched brakes car would jump sideways .Sure enough it was down right dangerous to drive took it straight back . Slimy manager having a chat with a customer went up to him "YOU OUTSIDE NOW "took him out in car hit the brakes car went sideways , he had a drive " rear drums are distorted "Told him it was ok before and should never have passed MOT . They agreed to put right free of charge .

Here it works on the build date on the factory plaque. If you've got a 2017 build, first registered in 2018 it's still priced as a 2017. You do get some dealers pushing the envelope by just quoting "First registered in XXXX".

They used to fit Australian compliance plates (plaques similar to the manufacturer) to vehicles as well, I'm not sure if they still do? They also have a date on them which is irrelevant to the value.

Sometimes the build date and first registered can be years apart- due to Australia's isolation (shipping time) and the slow sales of some imported models that the dealers keep stock of. I recall Renault having some Laguna wagons that had a build date 3 years old but they were selling them as new vehicles. The price was quite tempting until I worked out why they were so cheap.

I read 2.3 was out for Sync3 car models, but my own car cannot find this update, so its not a EU update for now. I do not know if you can find a website to manually download.

Others write they got the 2.3 update when their car got serviced.

I don't think Joe Bloggs is at all interested in the build date. First registration denotes the age of the car to probably 97% of car buyers, new or used. Build date has no bearing on sale price in the UK. Until I came across ETIS on here it never occurred to me to even query it, and I've bought more than a dozen new Ford's over the years. I now know that my wife's new car was built a year ago but I shan't tell her!

Mk1 Technical : Kuga does not rev over 2500rpm

Subject: Kuga does not rev over 2500rpm

Hi,

Update of the situation, in case somebody is interested. The fault has not been found. The other Kuga had failure in fuel pump, mine not.

After last post following has been done:
- Replaced fuel pressure measurement
- Replaced EGR valve
- Suspected that the cam chain (that connects cam shafts together) has jumped when belt was replaced--> opened the head cover and discovered that the chain was not jumped.
- Did compression test and discovered that 1st cylinder had 30-35% less compression --> removed cylinder head and checked by another workshop. Head and valves were OK. Afterwards they said it might have been faulty measured, since after this compression test was OK and still same symptoms.
- They replaced new injection nozzles, fuel pump and PCM and still no fault found (they will install old parts back). They even tried new throttle.

Still same symptoms and no fault codes and the revs are limited to ~2500rpm. They say that the fuel pressure starts to decrease at over 2300rpm...

Still it is nice to have 4x4 during winter, only if I could drive one...

My Son picked up a new Fiesta yesterday with Sync 3, it has 2.3 installed, DAB text is NOT cut off on the Fiesta. I have 2.2 on my Kuga, with the cut off text problem, but, my dealer has told me there is a new update they want to install after re installing 2.2 just 2 weeks ago! My first service is due in March so going to have it done then as I also have a test to perform (twice) before they have it back due to my poor fuel economy.

Mk1 Technical : Possible turbo leak

Subject: Possible turbo leak
Posted: 01 Feb 2018 at 2:44pm

Hello y'all,  smell of exhaust in the cab, been going on since I bought the car 10 months ago, we have now narrowed it to a possible leak on OR around the turbo. I have witnessed a puff of fumes on start uo and close down of the engine, witnessed this from underneath the car.

The turbo is situated at the back of the engine and is hard to get at, OR is it ? has any member had the pleasure of working on the turbo, 2009 AWD Tit.

any advise or experience will be gratefully appreciated

I suspect the turbo / exhaust needs nipping up, I say this as the car has what looks like a new/replacement Cat, and I feel it possible the job was completed by a pair  of dreamers as other parts of the exhaust system  required a nip up.

cheers
