Mk1 Technical : Battery/pcm's

Good day All
Local garage just fitted me a new battery(6 and half years 135k km on original) unfortunately the unit he used to keep the memory during the change over did not work. When I started up everything had reverted back to 23/11/2011, the date of manufacture.
I have managed to reset language, dates, time, windows doors etc but gearshift times(auto)is now different, average fuel consumption has gone from 7.5/100ks( last 3 years) down to 6.8/100ks and I have lost my autodoor locking at 15kms/hr function.
I have had it into local dealer and they say there have been no PCM'S or TB's for my kuga since it was new and computer shows no problems.
Is there anyone out there who can point me to the correct place to get this info from Ford or can anyone confirm that they are correct when they say there are no PCMs. Also would any TBs which were applicable/done stay in the memory?
Any help appreciated

Hi All,
I'm new to the Kuga forum.
The reason I am writing is for advice.
I bought a 64 plate kuga nearly two years ago, it has a full Ford service history and I carried on the by getting it serviced by my local Ford service centre 19/02/2017.
Two weeks ago my partner was driving on the M4 and all of a sudden the oil warning light came on, she pulled over asap and the car went into limp mode as she stopped and the engine then cut out.
The AA recovered it to another dealership and after a week they had a chance to check it and have told me that the problem was that the sump plug had come out and obviously dropped all the oil. Some of it remained in the guard as well as the plug and in their opinion it had not been tightened up enough at the last service. Resulting in the engine ceasing and the turbo as well as the engine needing replacing at a cost of £7240
I rang the service provider and explained the situation, the service man said it was not their responsibility as it would not have taken so long to come undone. So I went to the service manager who consulted with the other garage, looked at the their video and read their report and said he didn't feel that it was their fault and has asked me to contact the site manager via email.
So I thought I would ask on here for any advice. The car has just done 8k since the last service, it hasn't been driven much since July as my partner has been off for 6 months ill.
Any help or suggestions as why this has happened or who is at fault greatly appreciated
Thanks
John

What a nasty experience.

Well John, it still wasn't tightened up sufficient, i'd be seeing a solicitor as you've paid a premium to get it serviced correctly at a Ford service department.

How many miles had it done since the service and it could still take several thousand miles for it full come out or to even break its seal to begin to come out?

Just noticed 8K.

Was the washer still on the plug John as that is replaced normally ensure a seal but also provide an element of 'lock' to the plug?

Hello.  I suppose there are only two possible reasons for the issue, 1) that it wasn't tightened enough on the last service, 2) the plug was faulty and not fit for purpose, neither of which are your fault.  I would recommend logging a case file with Ford, so they are aware of the issue, as they should be responsible for either problem.  I can't see that the sump plug would be subject to wear and tear and if it was previously fine and not faulty, then there can only be one other answer.  You may need to push them, as no doubt Ford will try it on first and any initial good will may include a large sum of cash from you too, which I personally wouldn't accept.  Good luck.

I bought a kuga 12 months ago absolutely over the moon with it but very unhappy with the fuel consumption I’m only getting an average of 21mpg the car is 1.5 ecoboost awd auto.
Took it into 1st service mentioned poor fuel consumption they said nothing wrong and no software updates .i was advised to take note of miles driven against litres it worked out same 21 mpg so took car back to ford they again put it on the computer and said nothing wrong and no software updates so next dealt with customer relations they suggested book car back in and they would get Ford service to deal with ford tech direct so they did some checks then after having the car for a week they came back to me and said nothing wrong with car and no software updates they had done emissions check so nothing was actually done that already been done now I have the car back they everything is in spec still only getting 21 mpg . If there’s anyone out there that has experienced this problem poor fuel consumption that might be able to advise me what can be done.

Don't like to say it Colin, but you've probably got the worst combination there for economy. There is a dedicated thread in the Mk2 section that's all about MPG, I'd suggest you have a read of that

Yes, I concur. I have the same model and fuel consumption was the 1st thing I noticed. Absolutely shocking. Mine had a fault with the exhaust which had me getting around 180miles on a full tank. Had that fixed, so now getting around 250 - 270miles per tank. Most of my driving is town based(London). As noted, there is a separate thread on that, but curiously, what range do you get for a full tank?

If a sump plug is fitted with a fresh washer and torqued up to the correct figure it should be impossible for it to undo, we would be in a right state of affairs if sump plugs were doing this up and down the country.
Just as an example of the quality of dealer servicing over the years on various cars I have had the dip stick left out, too much oil, not enough oil, the incorrect oil filter fitted, brake pads fitted incorrectly, squealing brake pads "filed" down to make the quiet, components broken because the "Technican" couldn`t work out how to correctly remove them, filters claimed to have been changed that haven`t been but I was charged for, after a clutch change on my 911 some pillock had put the gearbox mounting bolts back finger tight luckily I spotted it before the forward facing gearbox fell off. etc etc

I don`t really use Dealers these days!

Speaking as one finds, I have had about a dozen new Ford's over last 30 years or so, some leased but mostly purchased, and have always had them maintained by local ford dealership (not usually the supplier). Never had any problems. I don't necessarily find any customer loyalty, obviously the mechanics don't know who I am. They seem to follow maintenance charts quite rigidly and I get good feedback on wear and tear positions. I wouldn't contemplate using anyone else whilst car is under warranty. I have compared costs with places like Halfords and the difference is not going to break anyone's bank account. Fords has to be competitive these days. All in my opinion.

Exactly. If there was any chance far of it coming undone there would some secondary retainer. How many sump plugs in the world and the same method of retention has been around probably since the concept of the combustion engine and if it was a problem, their would soon be fix.

For the service department in the first instant to say its not their fault knowing full well they were the last to touch the sump plug at the service, was deplorable. Maybe the particular service department sees a chance to re-write history. Oh they may well do that.

Hopefully someone at the dealer will see sense.

Going from using 7.5 litres per 100km to 6.8 litres per 100km is better so don't complain about that.

Door locking can be turned on by your Ford garage easily enough.

What's the problem?
