Mk2 General Discussion : Goodbye To My Kuga

Our three year old Kuga AWD 180 Powershift Kuga that had covered only 25,000 trouble free miles left our ownership today. In 25k the car had only two new front tyres (Hankook which I highly recommend) and new wiper blades. For a compact 4x4 it was comfortable and handled well but I have to say that I was disappointed with the fuel consumption that worsened after about 5000 Miles. I seriously considered buying another but really wanted a bit more space and also I dont like the Americanised looking front on the facelift model. One area that I feel the Kuga excelled was as a tow car, it was one of the best cars we’ve had for towing.

Give us a pic of the filterhousing you have. If it is standard MK1 2L Diesel, you can just take the left and right connectors from the housing and muscle them together. Just don't break them.

Not a good idea ant the filter is there to keep sh*t out the lift pump is immersed in fuel so wont draw air unless you are low on fuel I would suspect the pipe conection into the filter may nee new o rings the filter housing was the seals replace at last filter change is it overdue a filter change has the filter housing ben dropped could be cracked check fuel pipe conection at the tank.

anti think I'd have murdered it by now if it were mine

At the minute it's not mounted but it's just behind the glovebox, you get a self adhesive bracket which I was looking at attaching to the back of the glovebox but it won't fit so I'm having a rethink. There's plenty of space around that area, it's just not a flat surface because there's wires and connectors etc. The box needs to be somewhere you can get access to in case you need the memory card to get the footage, and you can get to behind the glovebox easily through the carpet underneath it so I want to keep it in that sort of area.

Mk1 Technical : AWD Malfunction / Haldex servicing info

Good Evening all, I have a 2012 auto 4x4 Kuga that has had Haldex problems, eventually Ford replaced it as it was just outside the 3 year warranty & only covered 26K, this was after they replaced oil, however as I was armed with info from this website I managed to shoot down all their arguments.
It has now done 31k and we have had a bit of a knock from the back as if we had changed down a gear too quick with a manual gearbox, I was considering changing oil & filters but after getting loads of freely given advice from Mathew at info@autofaultfinder.com, I removed the wires from the unit. We had the AWD fault come up but the noise/knock went, drove it for a week and reconnected wiring, it’s behaving so far.
As our car was built in 2012 can anyone tell me how to find out if it’s MK1 or MK2 .
Could anyone please tell me if the 2017 model AWD Kuga has a Haldex unit fitted, a salesman told me yesterday when I questioned him that the new unit fitted ( he didn’t know what it was) was not a serviceable item and if it fails you replace it.
I believe that this has been Fords problem all along, any knowledge on this would be appreciated as we are selling ours and I won’t buy another one if they still have the same units fitted.

Apologies I didn’t put in that Ford replaced the Haldex unit, the latest problem is after the car has done about 5.5K after fitting.

New Kugas don't have Haldex. Ford now uses some different system.
I have no further info on this.

Sounds fuel related, however mine just wouldn't start. It happened very quickly, hard to start and within two days wouldn't start at all. To cut a long story short mine was the high pressure fuel pump. Ended up costing close to 900 quid for a new one to be fitted. I was gutted. Other possible options to explore are crank shaft sensor, cam shaft sensor and don't rule out air in the fuel or even filter issues. Best bet would be to hook it up on a computer and see if any codes are on there. I wish I had done that before just going for the 'most likely' options first.... Glow plugs, sensors, starter motor, fuel filter, all replaced to find out it was the pump.... Oh well live and learn I guess

I'm having exactly the same issue. If you ever found out what was causing the problem I'd be grateful to hear. I'm going to remove and clean the egr valve I think to see if that has any effect. I'm also looking at possibly the maf sensor and giving that a clean. I will post of I do find out the cause of the problem

Alternators were an issue I think. Worth checking to see. Mine was white hot and obviously not doing anything. I think there was also an issue on mine that because the battery was quite low the dash didn't shut down lol anyway boost started it fine, changed the alternator and touch wood no more electrical issues.

What did you replace it with?

Did you also do calculations to work out financially how much better off you'd be with a different (more fuel efficient) vehicle? Taking into account the additional cost of purchase (eg. interest on any loan), fuel savings @ around 8400 mile per year, insurance, registration and servicing?

I'm just curious as I see a lot of people change vehicles because of the fuel economy- but I don't think too many actually take into account the full cost of ownership. For example, the Kuga (in Australia) is very cheap for servicing and insurance compared to other similar vehicles.

OK quite a simple one this. Do I need to top up my dpf thingymibob? I'm a kuga 2.0 tdci on a 59plate. If I do is it easy job? I'd rather get it done out the way before the cold weather gets here 🤔

Hi mate, selectable ambient lighting was a option that you had to add to the spec I believe if so it’s possible that it wasn’t on the car? Do you have a red glow normally or nothing?
And yea I believe car play is cable only

If you put the VIN into the Ford ETIS website it will give you a list of every option fitted. Google should find the ETIS site.
