Hi
I have a 2L 2016 diesel 180 awd version. I want to do an oil change , my local dealer has sent the oil filter and sump plug. The sump plug is plastic with an o ring and clip. Do I need to change these parts and if I do is it straight forward. Was expecting a metal standard sump plug.
Regards

Would be interested to know what you have chosen to replace the Continentals .

I think I was looking at the time at the Hankook Dynapro HP summer or all season tyres but that was back in March 2015. They seemed at the time to have a good efficiency and noise index as well as reasonable grip. Probably much better tyres available now. I did quite a few miles latter end of 2015 so ended up changing the car so didn't have to buy the Hankooks.

I also read the following link and I wouldn't expect an all season tyre to cope with mud and to be honest not sure even my Nokian Winters would cope with mud as mud doesn't compact itself in the tread.

The jack on my 2016 Kuga Zetec is a scissor jack which is extended to make it higher using a metal weld on block as standard. It fits on to the sill seam using the metal welded on block as a guide. I have experienced a lot of instability when using the standard Ford jack on my Kuga & also found it hard to operate. I now carry several tools to make changing a wheel a lot easier. Once you have identified which model you own you will be in a position to purchase a jack from your local Ford dealer or a replacement from the aftermarket.

Like you I found the storage under the drivers seat by accident whilst cleaning the interior of my Kuga. To my surprise my dealer did not know that it was there either.

There are far fewer  specific engine designs around than we might think. Engines are very expensive to design and develop so it is quite normal for manufacturers to opt to either purchase engines (quite often re-badged) from a competitor or to build them under licence (again often under their own badge) when this is the more economically sensible route. Some of these engines can be pretty old as well - albeit tweaked and improved. Often different manufacturers will add their own improvements to a licensed engine so that what can seem at first look to be a range of distinct proprietal engines turn out to be variants of a common licenced ancestor.

4 pins under the rear valance.
wheel arch plastic trims,
screws below rear lights,
the light clusters need to be removed too, as the bumper lip is behind them,  this is screwed from the outside think they're under plastic caps.
pull the front edges of the bumper outwards off the car
once you see where they are it is really easy.   even i did it.

look at this from page 8 westfalia towbar instructions.   good luck.

or witter instruction....

Is it like this?

I guess the later models may have a different sump drain design.

Yes it is. Also needs an o ring and a metal clip, really thrown me as I've never seen this type. So until I get the tray off I'm at a losss

I bet most dealers just suck it out of the top now, sump plug is coming to the point of fit and forget..

picked up an oil suction pump a few years ago in lidl for small money - works fine!

On a related question, I have a new 1.5TD Kuga.  The recommended service interval is 20,000km.  Is there likely to be much benefit in doing more frequent oil changes, but leaving the filters (incl oil filter) to the recommended interval?  I had heard that more frequent oil changes were recommended for the older 1.6 engines, but not so sure about the 1.5.  With the suction pump, a simple oil change is simple to do, while changing filters would be a bit more awkward.

An update on my issues regarding DPF and DPS fault codes on my 2.0 TDCi 2WD 140.
It went away for a short period, but didn't last. Basically ended up with what seemed like almost all the DTCs associated with the DPF system. "Soot accumulation", "DPF perfomance", "Pressure Sensor Circuit" etc. etc.
It may have just needed a new DPS, and a regen, and all would be fine, but looked at the sort of money a sensor was, and it wasn't much, but wasn't guaranteed to fix the issue. With the potential for a new DPF required, I decided to just cut my losses and found a local tuning garage online which solved my DPF issues forever (plus a complimentary ECU remap to disable DTCs and regen attempts while taking the engine to 185HP).

£450 later and I no longer have any worries about the DPF or EGR, and won't ever have (from a technical perspective) in the future.

Nice bonus is the remap has made the engine much smoother, and MPG improvement on the in-car trip computer is showing about a 5 - 10% improvement. But am going to get real data on the next few fill-ups.

Would recommend this course of action personally if you don't mind the potential pitfalls.

They look like the ContiSportContact 5 - that's what is on mine. They're excellent for me with no snow/ ice to worry about.

(Edit: As for fuel economy vs tyres, I'd much rather have a tyre that grips when I need it than something that saves me a tiny bit on fuel!)

Its a shame that the issues of DPF reliability hasn't been addressed by the manufacturers even retrospectively on existing cars, providing that its not because the engine hasn't had a long run to carry out a regeneration because on the majority of vehicles its seems to work well.

I'm going to be slightly controversial here, pity the problem wasn't solved as it's now contributing to another problem.

We're getting sidetracked with the pump thingy. Has anyone actually done an oil change on a 16 plate 180 diesel with this revised sump plug??
