I presumed you was referring to an engine bought by Ford from Mazda, as in the PSA relationship for the 2.0 diesel or the Volvo relationship for the I5 in the old RS Focus.  The 2.0 may have had some Mazda design input but it's built by Ford in Valencia using Ford's own supply base.

Hi guys,

The Kuga is possibly the most annoying car I've worked on, everything is a hassle! Angry

I have purchased a genuine Ford towbar for use here in Australia. I have read many installation instructions, although none for the actual bar I have. Can anybody shed some light on how one would remove the rear bumper?

I've found the 4 pins underneath, removed the wheel arch pins but cannot find the centre bolts?

Thanks

Think of this, the same force is supporting the car is the same on whatever size wheel you fit so the same amount of rubber maybe touching the road, barring stiffness of rubber.
the more rubber touching the road the more power is needed to pull the car forward :)
So whatever wheel size, it always comes back to.  size matters LOL

How do you know that there isn't the same amount of rubber touching the road if the tyre pressure is the same in each size of tyre? Vis same pressure in 18" and 19" and oddly enough in my 16" at only 215mm wide has the same pressure?

i Don't.  But i believe in car nerds taht argue it is correct and Mechanic's saying the same.

And seeing IS believing. Same car, different tyres here, and now im 8-10mps below previous reading and almost had 2 checks to rely on.

btw, if you had 215 on your 16" and 235 on your new set, wouldnt it make you believe more rubber is touching the ground? you actually put a wider tire on your car.

This article tested several tyres, same brand, although difference is only 10%, it confirms what im told.

Thats a long way out isnt it, notice no one on here is seeing that difference when changing from 16 17 18 or 19 tyres. Once a wheel is rotating its simply a mass under velocity. As far as weight affecting real MPG I have carried over 300kg over a 140 mile combined journey (the same journey probably 80 times this past 4 years) and the difference in MPG was at most 2mpg which is 2-4% due to weight oddly enough. I have no reason or gain to state false information.

What do you mean with 'and now im 8-10mps below"?

As for rubber on the road, well as we dont know how stiff the rubber is on a tyre, but lets say its the same on whatever size tyre. So we have a load of X a pressure of Y over an area Z. X is the load/weight the tyre is supporting, Z is the footprint of the tyre in square ins or square cm). Y times Z give the load X the tyre is holding.

I am surprised you do not know why?

No one is asking, many, many post, and when the question suddenly pops, when someone says they master 47mpg on a 1.5 ecoboost, he is on 17" wheels.

So ask, and dont just accept that all others use the same wheels and maybe it is not so common to switch tyres during winter , iike in Denmark? So if you mean when they switch after 3-4 years, that says something about reoccurring events and timing?

Why do you have the details on fuel economy for the tyre?

So its not important? They just mention this because it sounds good?

I'm not surprised I don't know why, I wish I did.

So I drive on my 17" winter wheels and get around 48mpg and then I drive on my 19" and I get 46-47mpg.

The labelling helps us make an informed choice so its not for show or sounding good. I've not looked but does the label for the same tyre brand and type in a 17 18 and 19" have the same information.

I've used the labelling system to choose my next summer tyres when the Continentals expire.

Would be interested to know what you have chosen to replace the Continentals .

I picked up my new ST Line 180PS Auto at the weekend and have a couple of queries for existing owners, before I refer back to the garage.

Re the Auto Stop/Start, I've noticed that most times (but not all), the oil light comes on for a split second just after the engine restarts. The oil level is fine (only done 200km so far). Has anyone else noticed this? There's nothing in the handbook about it, in fact the handbook only refers to manual transmissions.

Re the headlamps, they're the "dynamic bending" bi-xenons and I apparently have the ability to switch from left-hand drive to right-hand drive, which will be handy when I come back to the UK in a couple of weeks for a holiday. I tried it by facing a wall and changing it via the vehicle settings menu (nothing about this feature in the handbook, btw) but I didn't see any change in the pattern. I assumed it would be noticeable.

Thoughts?

Roy

Of course there is more to mpg's . But my driving style did not change between winter and summer tyres, but wheel and tyre type did, and it dropped from 38 to 32 currently. I did not change oil, put 400kg's in the back or add to the family :) And when i asked, that was the message.
So people here, already do 32mpg with their 1.5 eco, and maybe thats the tyre / engine / driving style combo doing it.

I do not know if the fuel usage change in those EU tests, but some believe they are to rely on, others buy what they feel confident with.

Mine (Mk2) has never had the oil light flash when the engine restarts.

Regarding the headlights, I've seen a video of a Focus ST3 owner adjusting his xenons between RHD and LHD on YouTube and there's a definite change in the pattern. A different model I admit but the lights are pretty much the same.

Had to be recovered yesterday as the Kuga would not start. 2011 MK1 TDCi AWD Titanium 163 manual. Its got 61k on the clock and is Ford serviced and has full history. The AA recovery has shown the following fault report, but Ford cant even look at the car for two weeks (Shocking) so I have to use a more local independant garage. Has anybody seen this before and if so any pointers please:

found the following fault code/s:System : Engine control 1 - ZZV / Diesel EDC/CR DCM3.5 V4P008733 - Rail pressure. Error Message : Signal intermittently too high.

I am also looking for where to find teh fuel rail pressure sensor, can anybody help with this also.

Thanks

Did you buy it used? If you got it from Ford new I'd expect some instructions would be supplied.

PS: wait until you get to the electrical side of things!
