If you can afford a new ST line then I should go the whole hog and get the towbar fitted by Ford. An add on towbar may well not function correctly with the in built trailer control function. It will come with a single black socket, but it sounds as if you have an old caravan with two plugs. The caravan will need a conversion plug to fit the new socket. I had an add on towbar fitted. It's a great tow car, but is not compatible with the trailer control function on the car.

Size of course should not make much difference other than rolling resistance.

When you compare figures here, and do not really take into account, that some people here got 17" on their Kuga, while others got 19", im sure if they care to mention more often, that those , like me, with 19" would have a low mpg and as mentioned before those with 17" got alot more mpg.

The actual overall wheel size is not much differant the 19 inch wheels use a much lower
Profile tyre that is much firmer but not much differant circumferance

That was not the case for Danish 19" then, and in my case, not at all.

The more wheel touching the ground, the more fuel you spent on driving, so if you have the 18" and get 19" with same overall size, except being 19", you still got 3.8% more touching grounds here.

I would pull the pipes off the back of the jets and blow compressed air down the jets.  Then run the washer before reconnecting the pipes.

Well in my case from 16" winters were maybe 1-2 mpg better than the summer Continentals and I put that down to the winter having a softer rubber so less effort to roll than the harder rubber. One might think it would be the other way round as the winter has a higher sidewall of softer rubber so the tyre sits lower. However if it did this, the tyre diameter would be different and would give extraneous results, so as hillbilly mentions, the tyre diameter of all sizes with the correct aspect (sidewall to width) are effectively the same.

Its worth noting that between 18" and 19" the PSI is the same, but the 19" has more area at that pressure touching the road because it is wider, unless of course we find the tyre sits higher so it has the same area touching the road as an 18".

The calculated difference between my 19" and 16" is 0.2%. You could achieve more than this differential buy having just a few PSI/mbar low or high of air.

I'm struggling with the idea of more rubber touching the road as effort is not lost in that and doesn't add to rolling resistance. I don't know enough about tyre technology to think beyond this.

Perhaps it's the percentage of material left on the pads... 30% left on front and 70% left on rear.... Even though the forms my local Ford dealer used stated % wear the dealer used to put the % left.... A phone call should answer this

Then you must have went from something like 235/60/16 to 235/45/19 ?  But if you change the overall size, you can easily get 3%+ without being wrong, so it could be a 235/40/19 (legal size in Denmark) , then you have a different fuel economy.

Lastly, lets not forgot the quality of the fyres used, you can easily have a C+ in fuel economy and others with A+ , and that alone affect your driving as well.

I got this from a mechanic and to confirm it , i asked in danish forums and didnt get any opposite story there. So larger wheel , worse fuel economy.

235/24 19     215/65 16     0.2% difference.

Think of this, the same force is supporting the car is the same on whatever size wheel you fit so the same amount of rubber maybe touching the road, barring stiffness of rubber.

If you are ordering a new factory kuga then i would most definitely have the factory tow bar.No warranty issues with aftermarket electrics and the retractable will look so much better.
The car comes with the 13 pin plug so if you have an older caravan i would get a local towbar fitter to put an new 13 pin plug on the caravan. Not all pins need to work but just saves you using any adaptors for the electrics.

Hi,

New to this forum and I am picking up a 64 Reg 2.0L Titanium X auto in a few days.

Has anyone managed to find anywhere with a workshop manual for the Kuga 2, I can find many sites with downloads etc but all for 2008 to 2012 Kuga 1 cars?

Brgds Dennis

The engine was developed by Mazda when they were part of the Ford empire.
After the falling out and subsequent divorce the new 2.0L Ecoboost now fitted from MY17 is a complete Ford design.

Also the torque vectoring is achieved by using the brakes to counter understeer.

There is a Spanish Kuga forum that has the MkII to download. From memory it's actually the USA Escape manual, but is mostly the same. Unfortunately I didn't bookmark the link.

Ford did own a controlling share of Mazda up to 2008. http://www.autonews.com/article/20150824/INDUSTRY_ON_TRIAL/308249993/how-fords-partnership-with-mazda-unraveled

This article suggests there isn't much in common between the two apart from the block http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/24/is-ford-2-0-liter-ecoboost-four-mazdaspeed3-four-not-really/

(I had a 2006 Mazda 6 that had "FordMoCo" parts all over the 2.3l engine. That engine was also used in the local Escape, which was basically a clone of the Mazda Tribute.)
