Mk2 Technical : Powershift gearbox oil change?.

Subject: Powershift gearbox oil change?.

Managed to get it done this morning with a stinking hangover in belting sun covered in thunderbugs!.

The oil that came out was filthy, the cup only has an inch of old oil and you cannot see through the bottom of it!. The new oil was clear with a green tint..

Bought the car on the premise of full service history so I have a mind to ring them up in the morning..

Glad it's done, the most annoying bit was battling with the plastic fasteners for the wheel arch liner..

Measured the oil that came out and it was bang on 6l, I did the level setting by the book and it used exactly 6l so it hasn't lost any!. Used a clean tray for the level check and kept the oil for the next change.

Car seems smoother and quiter, it occasionally had bounce between 1800rpm to 2000rpm and this seems to have dissappeared.

Glad it's done and it deffinitely needed doing, took me 2 hours but I wasn't rushing at it, would have been an hour or less to do on proper car lift.

This link was very helpful, along with the document from kuga4574 (thanks!)

http://www.furitech.com.au/index.php/getrag-6dct-mps6-dual-clutch-transmission-fluid-change/

The wife said garage had sent her a message about service due, don't think I'll be taking it back funnily enough..

Apart from that you obviously don't like PSA, what's actually wrong with the engine?

Mine does this intermittently, has since I got it in Feb. No fault code found, it's due to go in to have a new tailgate strut fitted. Can only assume the strut is sticking and the electronics throw a paddy because of it

Didn't you know?, I have no issues at all with the engine.

Happens all the time, sometimes complete cars are re-badged and sold as another make..

Example - Ford build all engines that go into Jaguar, Land Rover, and Aston Martin vehicles.  JLR have only recently started producing their first own built engine.

It's a good engine.  One of the reasons I bought the Kuga.  The one in my Galaxy has done 185,000 miles.  The only bits that have gone wrong have been Ford add-ons.

Recently ran out of washer fluid (no warning lights on my model) and after the refill the back washer is fine and spraying normally, but the front 2 are doing a pathetic spit.

I assume from reading on here that they are blocked, is this something I could deal with or a garage job?

Thanks

Hi

Had difficulty starting our Kuga the other day and wheneventually started would cut out on idle.

After driving a short distance the engine rev’s startingto back off and the ESP light came on, this cleared and the car ran ok for afew miles before ESP light came on and stayed on. I cleared this by pullingover and stop / restarting the engine all ok for rest of day.

Today the car would not start, eventually started but continuallycutting out no warning lights, finally cut out with ESP warning light and HillStart Disabled message.

Managed to drive it main dealer awaiting phone call.

Has anyone else had similar issue?

Thanks

Anthony J

Hi Guys. Back in late March 2016, I entered this thread with tales of woe for my fuel consumption. Basically, full to empty driving was getting me in the region of 180 - 200 miles usage. Been back and forth to the dealer with to no avail, so just basically gave up and bit the bullet. Until my last major service. I got chatting to a mechanic and spoke about the problem to him. I told him of an odd "rasping" noise from under the car when using "Sports" mode ( I got the 4WD model auto) which sounded like a broken manifold. He suggested mentioning for the service and get a mechanic to ride with me to hear. Done that and he heard and confirmed the issue which was fixed at the service. Pleased to report I'm now hitting about 260miles on a full tank and a power increase to boot! Driving on Motorways I'm now getting about 330miles just for fun. All in all, now happy with the car and may look towards a Mk III maybe next year.

Could be car battery starting to fail, numerous posts on forum with umpteen different symptoms, might pay to get it tested and also alternator to see if is doing what it should be

I am sure that, like me, you have all had a good laugh at Ford's "official" MPG figures.  For my particular specification Kuga, they are:-

Extra-Urban 57.7
Combined 54.3
Urban 51.4

Taking the Extra-Urban figure as peak efficiency of 100 %, then the Combined MPG figure is about 94 % efficiency and the Urban figure is about 89 % efficiency.

I had expected that, despite significantly lower actual figures in reality, the ratio of the relative types of consumption would be reasonably close.  But having done enough miles to get some idea of the relative actual figures, these seem to indicate the following:-

Extra-Urban 44
Combined 37
Urban 33

The relative percentage efficiency seems to be that, for me, Urban driving gives about 75 % of the Extra-Urban (100 %) figure and Combined is about 84 %.  Granted I live in a very hilly area so the Urban figure is low which also drags down the Combined figure.

Does anyone who lives on the flat, in for example Lincolnshire (excluding the Lincolnshire Wolds) have any figures for comparison ?

I had the 2014  2.0 diesel 163 manual  4x4 and drove it with care using the gears as you should (been driving 53 years) had it for 3 years and had it serviced as you should and ever time it went in told them about the poor mpg39 average each time it came out from the Ford dealer nothing wrongso I called it a day with Fords and now run a German car 2.0 diesel x-drive auto a lot better finish and doing a average of 47.3 but will get better as I have only 4000 on the clock.Wink

I've just had a 30,000 mile service. I was advised the rear brake pads are 70% worn. The front are only 30% worn. I would have thought the front would wear faster than the rear. Could it be a sticky handbrake or is it the hill start assist that's causing extra wear? Any comments please? I do drive quite smoothly without hitting the brakes all the time.
