Kuga NON model specific general info : Fumes inside Kuga

Picked up my 2009 Mk1 AWD, had plenty of problems, ESP/ABS injectors fuel leaks and fumes in the car.

Fumes in the car;
1st port of call was, EGR this was lose and blowing passed the gasket, new gasket fitted. however still getting gassed.
2nd port of call, found by accident, the exhaust joint after DPF was blowing, quick fix cemented it up, fumes decreased BU still present.
3rd and to date port of call, exhaust joint before DPF definite blowing passed gasket, quick fix again cemented up, fumes well low now BUT still present,
The flexi exhaust pipe between the turbo and DPF looks new, in my opinion the jockey that replaced this piece DID NOT DO THE JOB RIGHT, i.e. torqued  up nuts etc. basically CBA, I have ordered all the gaskets and fixings and will put aside a day to put right the work. I know for sure that this is the fume in car culprit. NOTE; check all the joints on the exhaust system, starting with the EGR.

Knype, yes of course but the discussion here is about factory orders. It's a matter of luck if the car you want is in stock. I ordered my Titanium with just a few options on 12 May. Was and am still told 12 weeks which should be any time now, but no news. Got a feeling it may be 67 reg by the time it arrives.

Provided the filter has the same physical dimensions as the genuine one it should work fine.
As hillbilly states it will be air either leaking into the fuel system or trapped air in the fuel system that needs to be bled out.

Well things have moved on. Volvo have now announced that all new models they produce will be electric or hybrid, and now France has announced plans to ban all conventional petrol and diesel cars - although not until 2040 (when I will be pushing 90 so probably won't be that bothered).

I was beginning to think maybe I should worry, but then learned that, as it has stop-start, my Kuga can be described as a diesel hybrid (although I personally feel that while that might be legally the case, morally it seems a bit dubious.)

Apparently the wrong rack was delivered, but the correct one arrived today. it was finished by 5pm, so now I am back on the road. They said they had never seen the fault before!

While I was in a tyre depot getting new tyres on one of my other cars, the manager told me he had the exactly the same intermittent problem on his wife's S-Max and he was driving it, because his wife refuses to drive it in case the steering fails.

I thought the definition of a hybrid vehicle was one that had more than energy store that could be replenished whilst the vehicle is being used.
Just because the vehicle can stop and start it's engine automatically that can't define it as a hybrid.

My thoughts exactly. The word 'hybrid' implies two forms of propulsion, not just diesel on or diesel off

Trapped air should work its way through system fairly quickly when the engine is running

If it helps anyone that might be thinking of placing a factory order for a Kuga, my car is a ST line X Auto AWD 180D in Ruby Red with extras ordered through a Ford dealer on 31/3/17, a delivery date of 31/5/17 was given to me but the car didn't actually arrive at the dealer until 16/6/17, one reason given for the delay was that the car was laid up at the port for a few days waiting for a transporter to bring it to the dealer, I finally collected the car on 21/06/17.

But it was well worth waiting for.

I would suggest, like kugaman1, it's the aircon. The service has probably got the aircon back to full efficiency but it also needs sanitising and de-odourising as it's revitalised performance is pulling through the smell from the years of bacteria build up.

You can buy cans of aircon deodouriser in car accessory outlets but I've never found them to be much use and after a few days the smell comes back because they don't purge the bacteria.

finally some good nice pictures of a green kuga mk2.5 )

Although to me, it looks a little official than a private car, maybe military thoughts or not ;)

Anyways congrats on your new car.

The 2009 Kuga 2.0 tdci does have a catalytic converter... So I would suggest that the smell is down to the cat. I just googled it.

Many years ago I was getting a funny smell in a focus through the vents. Had the air con cleansed at the local Ford garage to no avail.   Turns out the washer fluid had gone off. Purged all the juice out and bleached it.
Have used Ford washer additive since and had no more trouble.

hI, TAILGATE OPENS FROM INTERIORBUTTON OR FROM KEYFOB BUT JUST BEEPS 5 TIMESWHEN ASKED TO CLOSE.
LOOKED IN BOOK AND IT SAYS 5 BEEPS MEANS A FAULT.
ANY SUGGESTIONS BEFORE I HAVE THE INCONVENIENCE OF HAVING TO BOK IT IN?

Obviously non of the faults listed in the hand book and pressing the tailgate button for 3 seconds doesn't reset it?

Just dawned on me that the biggest problem with the kuga i have is, its the fact that the engine 2.0tdi is a flaming Citroen/Peugeot unit.
Of all the technical experience ford have, they stick a cr*ppy engine in it.
That was it, that's why most gather at garden centres.
