My tow bar and 13 pin socket are factory fitted. The software update is required so that Trailer Sway and bulb failure warnings operate correctly and rear sensors and fog lamps are disabled.

I have no idea whether the trailer lamps will operate without the update but suspect they probably will but without bulb failure warnings.

But then you won't have a spare wheel as that's where the sub sits.

A sub won't get you off the motorway when you have a flat tyre. I know what I would rather have in the back.

Well, i assume since towbar manuals says, that those features will enable automatically when you change the 2 options in software which activate towbar.

I believe all i read and other posts, that my problems are not similar, since lights work as expected, but its the inside functions, which do not get enabled, so i suspect the mechanic not to have been doing the parts as the westfalia manual says.

So next stop must be Ford, unless i find a good mechanic that knows what the other guy did wrong. I cannot go back to him right now, since i modified those 2 options here, and he wanted Ford to look at it for an additional cost.

Hi ppls,

How we all going?
Dave here from Victoria in Australia.

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with some advice and info
Here gos............

I am looking at purchasing a second hand 2008 First generation Kuga Titanium 2.0 TDCi 6 speed manual AWD that was privately imported here by a lady from the UK when she moved here in 2013, as she owned the car from new and loved it.

Anyways my problem and questions are this;
Ford Australia only started selling the generation 1 Kuga back in 2012, and also they never had a manual diesel variant for sale!
So my problem is would parts be easy to come buy here in Oz?

I am the proud owner of a 2008 MK2 Focus 2.0 TDCi 6 speed manual, and being a crazed Ford fan I know a little about Fords.
So I know that the Focus and Kuga share a common platform, but are the engine, transmission, etc the same?
Like if I purchased the Kuga and something was to happen, if I took it to a Ford workshop would they be able to use parts off the diesel MK2 Focus and off the normal petrol AWD Gen 1 Kugas to repair this Kuga I am looking to buy?
Is there commonality between the petrol AWD Gen 1 Kugas and this imported diesel model? Like is everything the same bar the engine and gearbox, and is the engine and gearbox the same as the Focus MK2 diesel?
All that make sense???

Sorry to waffle on, but I want to make sure I get 100% of what I want to say across as best I can.

I just want to know that if I do purchase this Kuga, I won't  be stuck if something breaks down and Ford can't source the parts easily or locally.

Thanks in advance for all your help and sorry for the long post

Dave

Welcome Dave, nice to see another Aussie on the forum.
I would think 90% of the parts that are service items on the manual Kuga diesel will be the same as the Focus. So filters, clutch etc. should be fairly easily sourced the manual gearbox should be good for another 100K.
Just looked at it on Carsales, looks tidy.

Hi Rob,

Yeah she's not too bad but does need a fair bit of TLC :(
Needs a good detail and some touch ups outside.
Worst thing is the from drivers guard has been resprayed so gonna get it checked out by a pro to see if the damage was bad or just light panel damage.
otherwise she drives very well and mechanically seems good :)

Does the groove allow the pad itself to rest against outer  skin of the body work?

I've got a very similar pad for my trolley jack, found them to be very good, Mine doesnt have the groove but "moulds" around jacking point and recovers after use, wasnt cheap though I think it cost about 14 of those new coins you need a spanner on

As the premium speaker system only comes with 9 speakers now. Could there still be plug and play loom there?

No UK Kugas have ever come with the subwoofer to my knowledge. There have been misprints in the brochures and pricelists saying 10 speaker system inc subwoofer. The mistakes were corrected in the online versions but may have made it to print.

There is a chance that the cabling could be there if other RHD countries such as Australia have the sub. Personally I'd doubt it though.

It's a shame they never came with the sub as I think the Sony system needs it. As a 'premium' sound system i'm not that impressed. The mid-range system in my previous Volvo V60 was better.

1. When i try and read BCM with focccus, it crashes and and say could not set security id.
2. I can open the xml i downloaded but settings looks very much like those i changed in the forscan, but some other values seems different, so im afraid if the xml i downloaded is not a 100% match, if Ford in Denmark did some updates after they got it home.

the files downloaded from the Ford site, are calibration files needed to program the car, it will not read/write to the car, unless you get the right calibration files, the vbf folder exists with focccus as well, but even if i copy my vbf files to that one in focccus, it is still failing to talk to the car for BCM.

Ok, starting to think its the Fuse, F26 .  I can see in other manuals for Kuga towbar, that if it exists, the old one should be removed and a new one added.

I have no idea if they replaced the F26 40a fuse.

If i remove it, it has no effect, maybe that is what cause my problem, if fuse is bad.
This picture below tells me to replace it, as i read it.

That shows if you have f26 in place and it's 40a then throw the one in the kit away(or maybe keep as as spare).
This refers to whether the car came with the tow module wires from factory therefore you wouldnt need to fit the wire into the f26, to feed the fuse, and the fuse to go with it.

:) Yes, i think fuse works.

When i remove it, and start left/right blink, at least i see a warning in display, not when i press the break though.

But fuse seems fine, no need to replace it.

Back to the last way out, probably, the Ford dealer.

Sounds to me like your kit has been fitted wrong. Maybe the can bus wiring connectors?   Or the module in their kit could be faulty.   Electronics do fail even when new.
