Much as I love my Kuga (Tit X remapped to 195bhp) I'd much rather be out on my Tiger 800 (or even driving my TVR - but that's a different story.... Clap)

It's finally been announced in Australia and we're now reverting back to the Escape name from Kuga.

I'm not sure if that also entails sourcing them from a different factory- or if it's a simple badge change at the Valencia plant. I've been active on the USA Escape forums for a while and believe the Spanish made version has much better quality control and finish.

I guess that also means we won't ever get the "ST line" version.

https://www.ford.com.au/suv/escape

http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/ford-escape-returns-to-australia-20161017-gs4frf.html

The release date is December/ January (info from salesman who sold me mine) - so they haven't given much notice!

Mk2 Technical : Anyone using FoCCCus?

How to adjust the maximum sweep of your windscreen wipers using FoCCCus.

Wiper Motor Module (WMM) calibration.

The basic instructions are here: https://www.drive2.com/l/4474628/

Noting that:

When you select "WMM Calibration" (under the BCM tab) the FoCCCus progress bar will stall at 50% (appearing like FoCCCus has crashed.) Ignore that stall as it is actually waiting for you to pull down three times on the wiper control stalk to initiate the calibration.

Once you do the three downward pulls (within 5 seconds), both wiper arms will go to roughly 3/4 of a full sweep. Carefully move them outwards with your hands to the desired maximum wipe position. (The Ford Escape workshop manual specifies 41.5mm from the windscreen surround trim edge, measured where the arm connects to the wiper blade. This position was too close to the wiper top tip going off the windscreen, so I sent mine with the top tip around 10mm in from the windscreen edge. It could be because the Escape is left hand drive and has the wiper setup mirrored to the Kuga.)

IF YOU PULL THE WIPERS TOO FAR DO NOT FORCE THEM BACKWARDS- YOU WILL DAMAGE THE WIPER MOTOR! Instead start the procedure again- do not complete the next step.

When the wipers are in the desired position, pull down on the wiper control stalk once more to permanently store that position.

Close down FoCCCus and open ForScan to delete all the DTC's that FoCCCus generates.

Job done.

PS: For reference, below is the text from the Ford Escape Workshop Manual instructing how to perform the above procedure using the Ford tool.

Quote
WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this section, refer to Safety Warnings in Section 100-00 . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
NOTICE: Do not set the ignition to OFF during the procedure. Setting the ignition to OFF causes the wiper motors to accept the current windshield wiper arms position as the initialized position.
NOTE: Low battery voltage may prevent the BCM from entering Learn Mode.
NOTE: If the FCDIM displays Low Battery Audio Off or the FDIM displays Battery Saver System Off, start the vehicle and set the ignition to OFF to reset the BCM .
NOTE: Make sure the windshield is clean and dry before carrying out this procedure.

1 Ignition ON.
2 Cycle the windshield wipers on and then off. Make sure the windshield wiper arms park in the correct position.
3 Using a scan tool, place the windshield wiper motors in Learn Mode using the WMM Calibration.
4 Press the wiper and washer lever arm down 3 times within 5 seconds. The windshield wiper arms move to a preset or pre-initialization position.
5 NOTICE: If the wiper arms are pulled closer to the A-pillar than the specified distance during this step, do not attempt to move the wiper arms back toward the pre-initialization position manually. Damage to the wiper motor can occur.
NOTE: Pre-initialization can be reset by selecting INTERMITTENT on the wiper/washer switch and then selecting OFF.
Gently pull the windshield wiper blades out toward the A-pillar moulding until the distance between the wiper arm and the A-pillar moulding is 41.5 mm (1.63 in).
6 Press the wiper and washer lever arm down 1 time. This sets the current windshield wiper arm position as the approved position and the wiper arms move back to the PARK position.
7 Using the scan tool, finish the WMM Calibration by placing the windshield wiper motors in Normal Mode.
8 Carry out a low speed windshield wipe and make sure the windshield wiper motors and arms park in the correct position.
9 Carry out a high speed windshield wipe on a wet windshield and make sure the wiper blades do not contact the A-pillar.

I had the awd malfunction light came on on saterday, and by sunday it had cleared itself. I contacted Fords who said it would probabl need a new pump filter and oil but would try just changing the oil and filter first  at a cost of £228 just wondered what your thoughts were on this. By the way I think Fords customer cares attitude towards this problem stinks and have told them so, I realy don't know why this department exists because they diddnt  give me any help even when my car was in warrenty. I had a wheel noise appear and they told me it was feathering on the tyers 3 times my car went in and they couldn't find the problem, the first time I took my car to an independent garage for an MOT they found that both front shock absorbers were leakin this is what caused the tyres to go out of shape but on 6 visits to main dealer incuding 3 services they did not find the  problem or maybe they didn't want to.

I am sorry hear that, what Kuga do you have? how many miles on the odo?

Assuming you have a Mk1 a filter and oil change is best but I strongly recommend that when doing this you have the pump removed from it's recess. Have the filter (attached to it's intake) cleaned of any sludge.
Look at reducing your Haldex fuse to a rating of 5 amps from 15. I have done this with no ill effects.
Volvo also stock the parts (Haldex Mk3/4)- I bought oil and filter (Ex Germany - none in the country) this last week. Translating currency they were £60. 2 hours labour from an independent will be a further £40. Cheaper than agents.

You probably have a Gen IV pump which is a good piece of kit. There is information here.http://www.awdwiki.com/en/ford+europe/

The actual hardware (actuators, clutch pack etc) rarely fails. It is more likely pump, Haldex controller (on the unit) or possibly the fuse.

For what it's worth my Ford dealers (and one Volvo I visited) said servicing the unit would be new ground covered, had never serviced one at a customer's request!

On a side note the Mk1's seem very sensitive to a lack of tyre rotation which will result in feathering and other anomalies on the tyres. I bought mine second hand with a shocking noise coming from the rear that sounded like a wheel bearing or some such was about to part company with the vehicle. After swopping out the spare with each wheel the culprit was found and against the wishes of the fitment centre had the tyre turned around on the rim which solved the noise issue.

Hi everyone,
Hope I'm in the correct place I need some advice about my car. Its a 2011 Ford Kuga TDCi 2ltr Smile
I bought this in July at 27 k on the clock . It is now on 30k. I recently had it serviced so it has a full service history. The garage I bought it from didn't provide any history on previous repairs of the vehicle and I didn't think to ask , so I have no idea when brakes where last done if at all etc.

Anyway enough of me waffling..LOL

I have noticed a loud whooshing type noise when braking - in particular down hill and wandered if anyone else had experienced this. I'm assuming the brakes where checked during service but does anyone know how long a set of brakes should last ? Predominately I make small journeys.

Another recent problem is like a bumpy almost knocking type noise between about 20 to 40 mph which disappears at about 60 mph. Its like the sound of going over bumps in the road a lot when you actually aren't. I'm familiar with wheel bearing and one of those went on my old Renault and whilst it sounds similar when I wind the window down I hear no noise coming from the outside of the car.

I saw a couple of similar problems online where people had literally had their cars taken to bits and no problem found - I have an RAC warranty which I pay for but prefer not to go down this route.

I have had no warning lights or codes come on the car and keep the tyres full of air and checked regularly.

My mechanic once said to me not to worry as cars do make noise from time to time and it isn't alwys something to worry about so hoping in my case it isn't.

Thanks Big smile

Hi, I have a 64 plate Kuga AWD Titanium 2.0 Duratorq.  My owner manual does not explain the full operation of the Information Display above the Audio System.  It states 'refer to separate manual' but I can't find one anywhere. Is there somewhere I can find detailed instruction/description of this display.  In particular I am trying to find the significance of the yellow border line around the screen when using the phone?

Cheers

I have one of those. Its very good. It can be configured to do live tracking but i've not done this yet. There are many options but the ones i use are to call it and it replies with location - remarkably good accuracy and could help to find car in a large open car park. I also sometimes use the option to send message when ignition is turned on. The manual is in chinglish and but once understood its ok to use.
Remember to get a 2G sim. Stupid me tried to get it working with a three sim.
It wont offer any deterrent but if the car is stolen at least there is an opportunity to track it.
I've mounted it in the right hand side of the boot and get 12v & ignition from the parking sensor loom. The gps and gsm antenna are mounted on top the molding by the quarter light. My car is mk1.

Well, they put the car onto the diagnostic programme and it showed a couple of faults within the part of sync 2 that deals with the phone connection.  There were 2 software updates, one of which was very likely the cure for the issue we are both experiencing.  Only one of the updates would download properly from Ford which is the most likely to have cured the problem and both the updates are covered by the car's warranty!  So far, so good.  The second update will be done when the car goes in for the breather pipe recall in the next week or so.  I now wait and see whether the phantom calls have stopped or not!
