It completely depends on your regular driving routes, town and city mileage, avoid a diesel engine in anything from any manufacturer, Ford says the diesel engine is'nt suitable for this useage this in the Mk1 Brochure to be fair from new.

You need to be regular mixed driving and if you include semi regular dual carriage way and motorway journeys you should have no issues.

My old 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara (Renault engine) was a pain for the DPF light coming on every 4-6k miles (fixed by a 40 minute blast up a motorway each time), exactly the same journeys, with 8mpg better economy in my 2011 Kuga and 60000 miles and the DPF light hasnt come on once.

The handbook recommends 1000 miles before using the car to tow. 180 diesel tows really well, stable and plenty of torque. I've been getting 26-27 mpg towing & 39-40 solo.

How many miles on the vehicle, im thinking fuel filter, and although Ford say the pump can prime the filter, in the real world it often does,nt seem to have the guts to do it.

I had new kuga nov 2014,been back in garage twice now, sparewheel well full of water, floor mat behind passenger seat, soaking, stinks of damp, they have had it back in ford garage over the a week this time,i pick it up this morning again, they say they hope they have fixed it, this time, they said it was a grommet in tailgate, last time, only noticed the water in well, when I took it to a towbar fitter, and he lifted boot ,and sent his workmate to fetch me to look at all the water that was in the well,he said you got a major water problem, what shall I do,i said fit the towbar,so I quickly thought I would take some photos, good job I did, when I went back to the garage where I got the car, the salesman, started on about towbar,i said look here I am not here about towbar,AND SAID WATER DONT RUN UP HILL,(PLONKER)ANYONE, ELSE HAD WATER PROBLEM I WOULD CHECK BOOT,

I had a leak in my wheel well. I found that when I fitted my tow bar too. Rates Ford found a tiny hole in the mastic sealer in rear offside corner. They fixed it same day and had been dry since. Luckily their warranty man Russell is very good. It was fixed about last March I think, so plenty of time to be tested!

Never leave it running unattended. Car thief's paradise !!
Started mine very early this morning for work. Minus 2, with frost. hit the Max button on heater controls and after one and half minutes, front and rear screens clear to drive. Not long after the interior comfortable.
With that sort of efficiency, it's just not worth leaving it started unattended

Earlier on this winter a few people near here had cars stolen when they had left them running and gone back into the house , then they were moaning in the local paper ....

thinking about  swapping mine this year in summer for mark 2 with  self park but its looking more like a change to another make at moment as costs for new Ford on road are so high by comparison.  currently running an Kuga mk 1 titanium with X pack .has the   fold down tray at back of seats 2009 model.AWD
looks like around a 10K trade in price. ( 60K coming up)  but  having to finance around £16k  when retired is  probably  not an option.
will check with dagenham motors  and another dealer nearer time but looking like a a competitor will be more  cost effective.  worth waiting a  bit longer  too at moment s increasingly looking as though  eu and uk government looking to adversely treat diesel vehicles.. so.. maybe dumping car for small petrol  may be a decent idea  even though I love the  ride.handling and ride height of  Kuga.
ist also very popular with wife. mum in law and others i give lifts too ( disabled etc) due to ability to slide out of car rather than climb out ( low cars a real pain for  disabled and elderly)  plus I can fit a walking frame in boot  or wheel chair. in fact had both in at same  time once with bit of  shuffling.

it can lose recognition if battery change takes too long. supposed to be done ideally under 30 seconds but think its actually Ok  for up to 1 minute.
you can reprogram it easily enough. check how to on u-tube.  bit like insert key in door lock. turn left-right=left etc   then  put in ignition and try. dealer will charge a bit for doing this so worth trying  out for self.
note who battery  comes out and replace with  same way up/down .it uses common Cr20032 type button battery. tesco etc  all sell these.
the  bonnet  mechanical key part  to be removed before   opening case  and refitted after battery change.  it pops apart with screwdriver easily.

no you cannot lock doors using remote key when engine running ( I tried it) .car senses if key is 'in'car.
insurance cover  becomes invalid if leaving a car unattended with engine running.
cars have quicker heating when driven e.g. load on engine rather than idling. e.g. normal driving. diesels in Uk do not have the 'engine heating element' fitted to Kuga's as  used in cold climate  countries . even there its an option i think.
have started my Kuga in minus  conditions easily enough ( diesel 2009 model)  I simply use quick clear to defrost windscreen ( 2 mins  max)  then drive off  normally but checking for icy roads. best to use low rams and  a higher gear where trying to warm engine as load is  quicker way of  getting heat from combustion  at normal road speeds to warm  through.
bear in mind even AWD ( as mine)  gives false sense of security on icy roads as weight of car  hives decent adherence to slippery roads but when it slides... it goes even with ABS  . had a few heart and stomach moments when driving low speeds on side roads.. let sure footed until braking.  was ok until down to 5-6 mph .then all wheels locked up and it slid over white lines.. potential for  impact on passing cars ! drive allowing  extra stopping distance and do not rely on ABS.

Yes I currently own a ford kuga titanium x 1.6 ecoboost auto which is hell for me. It's a heavy drinker that's a first. It growls when you are at high speeds, personally I would not recommend it, I am now considering to change my car if that is possible on motability, it's only a 64 plate and I want to see if I can replace it, can anyone tell me if that is possible and getting my money back

Well DJRAH you seem to be one of many. There just has to be something wrong with the design of the electrical system on the MK1, though maybe the MK2 will also suffer.

If the alternator as described in this thread is a 150 amp device, then the potential electrical load on start up in winter of 310 amp (look back at page 3 in this thread for electrical load of circuits) is going to overload it. Taking it for granted that the MK4 Mondeo from 2007 onward had the same engine, as far as I can remember there were not any postings of alternator failure on TALKFORD from 2009 up until now.

On Fords since the late 90s particularly with the introduction of the smart charge system they have used a system of 'load shedding' where when the load on the alternator drops sufficiently to prevent battery charging various electrical circuits are momentarily turned off so that the alternator isnt overloaded and of course the battery still receives a charge. These circuits as far as I know were the heavy loads of Auxiliary heater (Diesel), heated screen and heated rear window, all of which are used in winter along with the diesee glow plugs which I believe are still on for a short time after start up.

Looking at the potential full current that could be drawn of 310 amp (I've calculated these currents from the fuse ratings of the individual circuits) there should be some sort of load shedding to prevent overloading. I would imaging there would be many more failuers if load shedding wasnt taking place, so is it a case of the alternator isnt big enough anyway and that the load shedding isnt operating at times, or even when its operating, the current being drawn from the alternator is still to high.

I havnt got round to checking what the real full load current is on my MK2 but now its cold I'll find time to do just that this week.
