Hi NigelB

We've gone for the top spec Auris with panoramic roof and all the same and more goodies that the Kuga had.

The big difference will be the fuel economy whereas the kuga was returning 25 - 27 mpg the Auris should return 50+ in a real world, plus I can silently sneak up on people wandering around the supermarket car park and scare the living daylights out of them.

Yes I know I'm a sad old fart!

Thanks DPGH. Yeah, I had that thought myself. Dry solder joints expanding and contracting was my thought.
Not attempted to take door card off yet and get in there.
The whole reason for buying a newer car was so I didn't have to work on them anymore. LOL

The Auris is a fine motor. There is a flagship Toyota dealer just a mile or so from me and, for some reason, it is full of Priuses (or is that Priii?) and that 'Marmite'C-HR which looks OK in some colours but hideous in others.

Enjoy the new car and, safe and happy motoring.

I've just noticed you are getting a Diesel Titanium X in July, before we got the petrol Kuga we had a MK1 Titanium X Diesel and we put 60K on it without any issues and we only got rid because we were no longer doing a high mileage having retired.

I think the 1.5l petrol is not man enough for the size of car, but the Auris is a 1.8 so hopefully I shouldn't blow it upThumbs Up

One thing we'll miss is the heated screen which is very useful in the frozen north

Enjoy your new car

Dave

Thanks Dave.

Four weeks to go for my first Kuga.

The heated screen is good wherever you are, I had them on both of my Alhambras.

I have had three great years in a Vauxhall Mokka without a single problem, well apart from a battery changed under warranty on a same day booking.

However now that Peugeot has acquired Vauxhall-Opel I would not touch another with a barge pole.

Diesel all the way here.
You can't get the VAT back on petrol in Ireland so if you are VAT registered
you have no choice but diesel.
I think with the entire transport industry using diesel it's not going anywhere fast
and the price will be protected to kerb inflation. If you have it a truck brought it.

Well, those are the cars and filters that I've dynoed before and after, so those are the ones I posted Tongue

Actually, you could have a point there, but if you've seen a REVi up close, you can see that it's almost an identical copy of the stock airbox, with its inner area properly formed to accomodate a cone filter, rather than the stock HUGE panel filter, that's all. Actually you can find videos and how-tos about modding the RX8's stock airbox to accomodate any type of -similarly sized- cone filter.

I'm going back to Diesel after six years in two petrol cars.
Diesel just seems inherently more reliable (had Dieselsfor 20 years before the petrol cars) and now that I have retired I am actually doing more miles than when I was working so the extra economy will be welcome.

I currently own a 40th Anniversary RX-8 which I have owned for 10 years and its my 4th RX-8, I am an RX-8 OC member since 2004 a moderator on the forum and the author of the buyers guide.

Although K&N actually produce an induction kit which is more trouble than its worth certainly on the RX-8 it is an example that just because it is a K&N doesn`t make it an improvement over stock.

Don't do it!

Add too little gas and it still won't work, add too much and you risk blowing the seals.

The DIY refill kits are cr*p (sorry, there is no other word for them).

A 'proper' re-gas comprises.

  • Hoovering out the system
  • Weighing the recovered gas
  • Recovering and recycling the gas
  • Injecting lubricant keep the seals moist
  • Checking for any leaks
  • Refilling with a precise amount of gas
  • Leak testing the entire system

Find a decent local aircon specialist.

Although we are way off topic, if you mean the K&N Typhoon, this was actually shown to decrease HP in some cases (mainly due to heat soak) and was prone to CELs, due to various reasons (air straighteners being one of them). I thought it was first updated to "ver.2" or something like that and then removed/canceled entirely, is it still being sold ? From what I can see in the K&N site, yes it is, and for ~550 euros no less....

That's why I went for the RB REVi, which maintained the stock look and heat protection by the plastic box, while still providing, whatever small or large, improvements Cool

I do plan to have either an FD or an RX8, preferably an R3, sometime in the future, when I won't have to worry about kids and their "requirements" Wink

Not sure how good they are but ATS Euromaster were doing a special re-gas deal on Groupon for £35.

If you have a look on the USA Ford Escape forums, there are a few 1.5 EcoBoost failures, mainly due to porous cylinder head castings.
I may be wrong, but I think the USA 1.5 Ecoboost engine is built in Mexico. I haven't heard of any issues with the European built units.

Not really as it demonstrates that a claimed "performance filter" such as a K&N in some cases is not exactly that.

In the case of the K&N Typhoon, it was the design and the "not-so-cold-air-intake-afterall" to blame, not the filter itself. As is the case with almost all SRIs, since the heat soak effect dimishes, eliminates or even negates any positive effect.

The increased flow from an aftermarket filter is always there, nonetheless..

ATS are really not that great (but way better than Kwik-Fit)

With aircon the old adage of 'you get what you pay for' is true.

A specialist who does this and only this all day, every day, is the place to go as they can normally overcome any issues without a problem.
