Mk2 Technical : Washer fluid level warning?

Basically its down to what headlamps you have fitted, as I believe its a requirement for all vehicles fitted with HIDs (and of course a Headlamp washer jet) to have this warning.

All my previous cars have been fitted with Halogens never had such a warning, including my 2011 Mk1 Titanium.

However that said my old 1984 Mk3 Escort (GL spec I think) had Halogens fitted but also a warning for low washer fluid but of course no headlamp washer jets fitted. Just a luxury item then ? Also the annoying low front brake pad warnings too. Pinch

I found voice control on media player to be hit and miss, What works on mine is for my Usb stick it responds to BROWSE USB, I then say PLAY( Album) . eg if I want to play The Beatles I will say PLAY BEATLES, it will then play that folder as I have all the sub albums just listed as tracks ie 1-295

Hi All,

My wife's Nov 65 plate (still under warranty) 150bhp 2.0 tdci cut out momentarily 2 weeks ago - dashboard went black as if total power disconnect, power steering was lost momentarily and then it came back to life with the only warning message being the Satnav SD card was missing, which cleared itself after about 10 seconds.

Unfortunately it was not a one off incident doing it again 2x in the following 48 hours.   Took it to local main dealer who diagnosed a Ford recall was outstanding for the card and performed a software update and what sounded like a firmware update on a power board which "should have fixed the problem" according to the garage.

Had the car back 24 hours and the same fault occurred 3 times - (fortunately it was only me driving, my wife and kids were at home using my car as my wife refused to drive it at this point).   But at 45 mph down a country lane the dash went black and the power steering stopped, so it's still quite scary.   Shortly after that one, I was about 1 mile from home continuing the journey the fault occurred again, but this time the steering wheel turned approx 150 degrees as if the "auto park" feature was rebooting and the car changed direction - fortunately I was being very cautious driving slowly at this point and I avoided an accident, pulling to the side of the road and waiting to clear it.

Got the final mile home and parked the car up, called the RAC and they have recovered it to the Ford garage.   After 5 days they have this afternoon taken a look at it and have advised the battery is not holding a charge so they need to keep it over the weekend to trickle charge the battery and that should fix the problem.

So, questions - a) anyone had a similar problem where the car electronics completely reset? b) do Ford's not come with any battery low fault light? the garage says alternator is absolutely fine, charging the battery, c) what's my insurance liability if I know there is an intermittent fault that could cause an accident (if the steering takes over) - would I still be covered? and finally d) what is a reasonable time for the dealer to have the car to investigate the fault and attempt repair and should I have any right to a loan car (which I'm guessing not!).

Toby.

Hello.  I had similar issues with a Ford Mondeo quite a few years ago with an intermittent fault and I believe it was due to the ignition not being wired correctly, or earthed.  I had a similar scary moment wen driving down an unlit single carriageway around 60mph when the issue happened and I lost power, steering and lights.  It was my dad's car at the time and he left it with Fords and refused to have it returned until the issue had been resolved.  I would do the same and ask for a courtesy car, as driving the car with a known fault would not go down well with your insurance company.

I think you should give them a couple of attempts to fix it and state if it's not fixed you want a refund/new car etc.  Is the car on finance?  If it is tell the finance company ASAP as well, as they are responsible and can put more pressure on the garage to get it resolved.

We have just picked up a new ST Line x eco boost auto in black. The dealer told me never go put it through a car wash as the eco friendly paint is a lot softer then the previous marks and would suffer from swirl effect very quickly. Anyone else been told this?

Best advice I got when I joined here with my black kuga was to invest in a bucket or two with grit guards. Seven years on and a lot of tlc there is no significant swirl effect.

I haven't used a car wash since 1993 when the 'loose' lacquer on my company Vauxhall Carlton (let's not go there) was 'surgically' removed in a large stripe over the bonnet.

Grit guards are essential as are an endless supply of good quality microfibre cloths. I have a microfibre waffle towel for drying (often on offer at ECP) and three years on I have no significant swirl on a soft red paint.

A good website I belong to and there are many like minded members with abundance of help is Detailing World.co.uk.

Agree to 2  X large buckets with grit guards, a mountain of microfibre cloths, a good sheepskin or noodle mitt to wash the car is a good starting point. Never use a sponge on the paint work while washing or you could inflict swirls.

Hi all,

I just got a Kuga Mk1 and its a great car so far. The only issue is a buzzing sound in the cabin which I have isolated to the cabin temperature sensor (beneath the wheel near your knee on a LHD).

I saw some advice about trying WD40 But all it did was change the tone slightly so planning to swap it out for a used low mileage part (part #: 3m5t-19c734-ab if anyone needs it).

I had a tried removing the plastic starting from the bottom and you can pull if off beneath the steering wheel But as you move up towards the centre console and the temperature vent it seems more solid.

Any ideas on the best way to get enough room to get a hand in there and pull out the sensor ? there is barely enough room to get fingers between the wheel and plastic to get leverage. I dont want to snap anything and dont know if its held there by the push-on tabs like at the bottom or if there is hidden screws somewhere.

Is it just brute-force pulling the plastic or is there a better way ? it seems to be one solid bit of plastic running all the way around the gear stick to the other side.

The other option might be to go via removing the stereo..

Any advice appreciated!

Hi.

I'm hoping one of you whizzes can help!
I have a 2015 titanium x diesel manual Kuga.

At a set of lights this evening the car made a jolt at standstill and then pulling away it felt like something was caught under the wheel. I instantly pulled over but there was nothing obvious.
The car judders and makes a grinding noise when accelerating but stops when cruising at the speed. No warning lights or notifications other than needing an oil change.
I'm in utter panic as I've only had the car for 8 months and I'm a newly single mother!

Any advice on what it might me and the expected repair costs.

Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem. Mine is manual and whenever I put it in reverse I got the continuous beep. The only way to clear was to turn off / on the car or ignore it and drive forwards for a 10 seconds or so.

I checked all the sensors and even brushed them with a toothbrush to remove any dirt. Still had a a continuous beep. No error messages on the ODB port.

In my case, the control module also *looked* dry But you can carefully open it once unplugged. There is 4 tabs you need to push in and pull at the same time which is fiddly. I used matchsticks in each slot to open it wide enough to pull to check.

What I found is that condensation had got in and looking carefully at the inside the plastic box where it slides in I could see some green corrosion from the PCB board even through the PCB looked fine. Strangely a spray of WD40 across it and it worked for again for 5 minutes But at least proved it was the problem.

I found a low mileage replacement part and swapped it out and it works fine.

I am not entirely sure But to be on the safe side, you can see the software and hardware version printed on the module so you should get one thats identical since its married to the computer.

If I get a chance I might run some silicon around the box edges to seal it properly.

Overall, it seems these boxes are very sensitive to moisture and its just time until you get condensation in it. I didn't even bother asking a Ford dealer for a price since even the used prices started at a 100 GBP given these are in high demand.

According to the Peruzzo site, only the Firenze 2 and 3 are fully compatible.

The Pure Instinct can be used if yu buy a Peruzzo adaptor.

Hi. Does anyone know if the Standard Pendle bike racks; the one that goes behind the tow ball, is also suitable for towinf a caravan as the higher one is far too high for me? I know in their site it only says the high one but have spoken to one person who said the standard one would be fine.

Thanks Justine
