Dealer Experiences : How much for a service?

Author: Bash D Bishop
Subject: How much for a service?

My wife's Kuga was due its first service so I called around for a quote. First off I tried to largest dealer group in the area, Peoples Ford in Edinburgh. When the service receptionist told me that it would be £199 I told her she was having a laugh as that was an absurd amout for what amounts to little more than an oil and filter change. She immediatley offered to take 10% off the price. I still refused to book as even £179 was excessive.

My next call was to the Dalkeith Ford Centre. This is much smaller than Peoples but also about 15 minutes closer to home. They quoted a much more reasonable £129 so I booked it in.

Today I took the car in and as I live about 15 miles from the garage I decided to wait. The facilities were exceptionally basic. 3 plastic chairs and a table with some brochures on it was all that was available. No drinks machine or water was available. I tried to visit a couple of local cafes but as I had our West Highland Terrier with me they would let us in!

Thankfully they managed to do the service quite quickly and I was on my way home. But not for long. I noticed the engine management light was on so I about turned and went back. It turned out they had disconnected a plug to make it easier to change the oil filter but although they had put it back they hadn't cleared the error codes. A few minutes with the IDS connected cleared the codes and I was on my way again.

All my main dealer experiences in recent years have been with Land Rover, BMW/Mini and Audi so the Ford Main Dealer experience has been a bit of a culture shock.Image may be NSFW.

Yeah. I have no idea what could cause this. But I'm starting to think it has something to do with the gears not meshing correctly. So by driving forward a small distance makes meshing better.
At least I feel like it does.

My Kuga does the same,I just let the handbrake off so it rolls a tiny bit before selecting reverse.

Depends if the kick feature is inhibited when a tow bar is fitted, not sure why it should be. Is it a fixed tow bar?

I have a factory fitted detachable towbar and not tried to fit it yet as its always P*ssing down for me to climb under and fit it but I think I had better test it. Mind i have the kick tail gate and it works with the tow bar off.

Yes mine works too with the tow bar off. Like you, maybe I'd better fit it and test the system.

I've been told my car is still at Valencia waiting to board the carrier.
Yet another delay but this time its the weather I believe.

Don't think I will be getting my Kuga any time soon.

MK1 General Discussion : Headlamp bulbs blowing

Had an issue a while back where a few headlight bulbs blew but it seemed to settle down and things were ok. Just recently though, they have started to blow again(3 in the past two months) so I am getting the headlamp resistor wires that are mentioned in the TSB.

Has anyone done this fix or had it done? I havent seen the resistors yet so I am not sure what they are like but I have heard that it isnt too tricky. Can anyone let me know how they should be fitted?

Thanks, everyone!

The bulb holder is indeed held only by friction. A gentle pull is all it takes :)

Wow, what a response with a lot of upset customers. Nicola, I know how you feel. My car broke down once again this week and the aa plugged the laptop in to reveal a turbo boost problem error code. The car is back at fords and I have a hire car too. I've had no update yet, but have demanded a replacement car! I am now thinking of gettingm rid! Even if they fix the turbo, I don't want the car back! Every time it's been back they have lied and covered up the problems and promised the fault had been rectified. This is unacceptable and I no longer have faith in the kuga! It's a real shame ford have not been quicker to recall our cars rather than fob us off!

I will keep you all informed.

Hi Guys,

I'm from South Africa, This is my first post to the forums. I own a Ford Kuga 2013 Titanium 2.0.

I had the exact same problem as TonyKuga2. My seatbelt clip looks exactly like that as well. It still works, but it does not look nice. This is definately a design issue I would believe.

Did you manage to get yours replaced under warranty?

Hello,

Last night I got an error on my dash "Immobilizer malfunction service required" and my car did not want to start.

I was able to unlock the car, all the lights went on as usual - pressed the Power button but the engine did not start.

This is the first error or warning on my Kuga, besides the low fuel :). I was quite shocked and disappointed as this car is still new.

Luckily I was not far from home and went to fetch the spare key. The car started with the spare key without any issues.

This morning I then tried my original key and it worked again.

I called Ford and they told me I need to book my car in for check-up, but they fully booked for the next 6 days - so I need to wait.

Just for piece of mind, I dont want to drive the car if this is a serious issue.

Did anyone have this issue before? Is the Immobilizer a module in the car or is it built into the key? Maybe the battery of the key is low?

I had this message come up once and would not start when my kuga was a few months old because my electric tail gate was not closed properly. I opened it closed it again touch wood so far never came back. Image may be NSFW.
