Mk2 Towing : MK 2 tow bars

Hi, I've just had a Witterdetachable/ flanged with dedicated electrics  fitted. I wanted a detachable but with a 2 bolt flange so I could swap the tow ball to give more versatility and be able to fit  bumper protection plate. Not overly impressed where the cables go through the rubber grommet though. I could take it back to the fitter I suppose but I should think he would only seal it with silicone. If I do that myself at least I know its been sealed. As for towing, I've not used it yet as the car has only covered 660 miles. As soon as it reaches 1000 miles I'm off with the van and I will post my thoughts on here. I paid £ 620 fitted and they updated the software so the car recognises its got a trailer behind it. If you go to the Witter web site you can view all the options.

Iv owned my Kuga 64plate for around 4 month now and everything has been going well however the past few days iv noticed that when i select reverse the radio now mutes and then comes back on again after i go into neutral. This has never happened before and was just wondering if this is a fault or if it originally was meant to do that. I do believe that the parking sensors were NOT factory fitted as it doesn't show a parking guide on the display and only beeps through the rear left speaker.

The display looks similar but is supposed to be a lot better. It's got a pinch and swipe capacitive touch screen and apparently responds a lot quicker to inputs. IIRC you can even communicate remotely with your car and use your phone to find out various info like the fuel level. It also has Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

This is probably better than me trying to remember the differences http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/

With the factory fitted sensors the volume does mute when the sensors start to pick up objects. Do you get the picture of the vehicle with which sensor is picking up an object in green/ orange / red graphics and the audio beeping through the speakers?

There can be same issue as there was with mine. The main seal on the pump motor had failed. So the pump motor was full of Haldex oil.

hi thankyou for your response, i dont believe i was talking about the anti theft,  there are lots of vidoes on the net about how to re sync your older ford models if you remote for what ever reason does not open your car,

simply insert into ignition, turn to position 2 and repeat 4 times or something like that lol

so im just trying to find how to connect my key fob to my car so i can control the central locking, at the moment i have to manually open the door with the key but i want to use the button on the fob to open and close the car doors.

Indeed your right re remote, but in the light of not having key to smartly switch ignition on and off and that the keyless start system uses radio frequency as well as the inductive passive system (near field by placing the fob near the steering column) my 2 suggestions may have helped.

Your keyless start transmissions are obviously working ok as your managing to start the car without placing the fob next to the steering column

How did you verify the remote control transmitter was working, did you actually listen to the transmission?

Unfortunately with this type of keyless remote it can only be programmed using Ford diagnostics

when the fob stopped working, i went to a local locksmith and he checked the fob and he told it was transmitting,

so ive come to the conclusion that it must have lost its sync with the car, so i was hoping it would be as easy as the old method of reprogramming your key,

can you please suggest anything?

also one thing i did notice, sometimes before fob stopped working, the car would tell me the bonnet was open even when it wasnt,  if the bonnet is open, or the car thinks it is would the central locking work at all, as in none of the buttons on the fob do anything?

I'd think you'd still get you bonnet warning.

OK on the locksmith checking transmission, he'd use a Field Strength Meter to do this but it is sufficient.

My only suggestion would be to try placing the fob next to the steering column and pressing ignition on.

As your Kuga is a MK1 it may be like the 2008 onward Mondeo, turn ignition on 4 times leaving it on at the 4th time and then press the unlock button on your remote.

Hi everybody .

I have not been on here for some time sadly, but i have just ordered my new car to replace my trusty old Kuga, and have gone for the new version Kuga mk II
My biggest problem is that in the dealers paperwork it comes with the ford sync DAB 3 audio system with 8" screen and 9 speakers .
But in the fords Build you car web site when you choose that  audio option the extra info says it comes with the rear view camera, but there is also a option to have the rear view camera, but the dealers say it is an option extra only costing £250. 00 i have tried but cannot confirm whether it dose or dose not come with the audi system the dealer has also not been able to confirm it, even with contacting fords
The problem is now if i order the car with just the audio system expecting it to come with the camera and it comes with out it cannot be fitted after, on the other hand if i pay £250.00 and add it as a extra and find out later it does come with the audio the dealer said i cannot claim the £250 back.
Has anybody taken ownership of the new style Kuga with this audio system and if so can they confirm if it dose or does not include the rear view camera.

Hi 010967djg The battery I bought was a Duracell standard battery model DA80 advanced car battery type 110 with a five year guarantee but they are rather expensive when I bought mine from Euro carparts it cost £92.99 but I bought a sealed for life type because the battery is a bit awkward to get to but they do have cheaper types I think it's a case of what you can afford so hope it helps.

Hi Fillco I don't know if they do have Silver calcium the battery that was fitted to mine when I bought the car was a non descript foreign I think that's why I bought the Duracell Eurocarparts recommended for the Kuga Mk1 do you know what the difference is I have had it fitted since 6th of August and I have had no problems.

The argument of fitting Silver Calcium was that it could accept a more rapid charge/higher current without bending the plates and premature deterioration and could also offer a better starting current in cold weather due its lower internal resistance. I think you'll find quality batteries have adopted the silver calcium construction anyway if you dig into their specification. I believe Ford started fitting them in mid to late 90s. I know my MK1 Mondeo had Smart Charge and specified Silver Calcium.

MK1 Kuga has smart Charge too.

2012 MK2 may have a slightly different smart charge and certainly the 2015/16 Kuga has with stop start with a different type of battery again due the electrical demand made on it. Ford however fit the least expensive type of battery for Stop start, or they have on my 2016 MK2. Difference being the premium battery will give 35% more cranking power whereas the lesser gives 15 -17% more power.

Duracell as a name wont let you down anyway.

Thanks for the info and link, the new system sounds very advanced then. But to be honest it will take me ages to get use to this system. It is light years from what I use too!
