I parked my car on a hill, to visit the dentist with my family. On coming out one hour later, We were asked if it was our car that had had an accident. The handbrake was on in the car and it had rolled back down a hill and smashed into a wall, causing extensive damage to the drivers side rear. The handbrake was still on, the car had no heavy items in the boot and had been serviced a month ago by a ford dealer. The car is now being repaired. I believe someone else had a similar issue with a kuga and would be interested to find out how they went on. The car is my first Kuga, and this is probably the first time I have packed on this road with it, but I have had parked on this road with Mondeos with no issues.

Did you take a picture and have a witness? Did you put the brake on to its fullest extent.

Not sure others had any joy withe Ford as you can see, implying the owners had'nt put the brake on as they should.
My guess if the dealer thinks there's nothing wrong then the ratchet mechanism needs inspecting to check the pawl hasnt rested in top of a tooth when the hand brake was applied and then its slipped. You dont want Ford checking this though, but your insurance company should employ an engineer.

Just curious. Are the handbrake issues with manual or automatic gearbox?
I rarely use the handbrake(only on hills), because I always leave it in gear. Never had issues.

Had the new car for over 3 weeks now and I am very happy with it. Weather has been rubbish so not really had time to take any photos and post them on here.

Here are a few of my first thoughts about the car and some things I don't like and some things I do.

First dislike - This is covered in other posts so not a surprise. The space between the back seats and cover is stupid !! I can't see it from the drivers seat so not too bad but still annoying. The privacy glass hides it from the outside so not a big issue.

Another one covered in another post is the dirt and grit etc that gathers in the door cills. The titanium x sport body kit traps the grit etc.  I have put a decent amount of polish and wax in the door cills to try and protect them but the grit still gathers there.  Shows up on the white paint too !! Again - not a big issue.

They are probably the only negative points so far ....

There are loads of good points and too many to mention but here are a few I like...

I was going to get a zetec or titanium to start with so getting the titanium X Sport came with quite a few extras I wasn't planning on.

The sunroof. I hate sunroofs. Wouldn't pay for one as an extra etc etc and couldn't see the point. BUT I love it. It lets loads of light into the car and I am looking forward to some decent weather to try it out properly.

The leather seats - as above this is something I have never been too bothered about in other cars and would have been happy with cloth or part leather, but the seats are lovely. Comfortable and look great too. The heated seats have been great in this cold weather too.

The Parking Sensors and rear camera. These have been a real bonus. I have to park in a tight driveway and thoughtless neighbours parking opposite my drive make it difficult to get in and out. The sensors and camera have made this really easy. Not quite used to the camera yet but it really helps.

Park Assist - Couldn't wait to try this out. It is really weird backing into a space and not using your hands but it really works well.

The Bi Xeon Headlights. Another item that I probably wouldn't have been bothered about that I have found to be really good - especially the way they light up the dark areas when you turn a corner. This is really good and something I didn't realise it had until I drove it. VERY useful!

Other Negative points raised in other posts ... (Not negative to me ...)

I read a few posts about the 19 inch wheels making the car a bit bumpy around town and noisey on the motorway. This almost put me of getting this model. I can't say I have noticed this in the slightest. The car is great over speed bumps etc and not had any road noise issues at all.

Ford Sync Touch - Still unsure about this. I wasn't too impressed when I started using it. Found it a bit awkward and messy to change simple things but as I am getting used to it I am actually starting to like it. The Navigation needs updating as a few roads missing. Have asked the local ford dealer for info on how to do this but still waiting fro a response !

Sorry if this is not the right place to but this sort of update but hope it might help someone else in the future choose which model to get.

Thanks
BMP

I guess the 19" come with Continentals do they, along with the slightly hard ride?
I suspect come next winter I'll be looking at the Hankook M & S variant as they have a good noise and efficiency rating which is better than the Continentals so I can overlap them with my winter wheel set of Nokians, or put Nokians on the 19" and the ride may feel like I've got 18" wheels due to the softer rubber. No good ruining in a good ride. Maybe I'm being premature in anticipating the ride quality of a Kuga with 19", I've been in a new Mondeo with 18" wheels and 19" wheels and I feel the the ride with the latter is ruined.

Got my titanium x sport 3 weeks ago and that has 19 inch wheels with continentals. Too dark outside now to tell you the exact model but can check tomorrow if needed.
Cant say I have noticed the hard ride or noise that has been mentioned in other posts. Mine has been great around town and on the motorway.

Always go for 19" wheels which generally come with Continental Premium Contact 5 tyres for this very reason 17's + 18's can be a lottery.

Bridgestone Dueler were noisy and wore to a sawtooth profile and they spoiled the experience of 4 Mk 1 Kuga's come 4 to 5,000miles in.

It certainly sounds that way !!  Don't think I would ever trust the handbrake on any car though. As one of the previous posts said it must be an older persons thing to leave it in gear. Probably used to some of the old bangers we used to drive were you definitely wouldn't trust the handbrake !!

Phil is right it shouldn't of failed
We once sat in a new landcrusier diesel in a car showroom tried the seating position etc my wife also did the same and got out and left it in reverse
The next person who got in didn't check just turned the key it started and crashed in to the showroom wall
Its just a age thing

Yes new tyres are quiet, wait until you get a few miles on them, you will notice, particularly if you then get in another car, numerous pundits and reviewers note it too, but it what your prepared to accept. I'll be too much on the road to warrant the noise and compromised ride.

Yes I think 99% of us are taught to leave it in gear along with the hand brake, but I guess we are thankful the hand brake has held on the odd times we have not left it in gear.

Hi All
I purchased a used mk1 kuga recently and when sold to me the millage was 29400. It now reads 31000.
I recently purchased modified ELM327 OBD reader/controller interface and with the program ELMConfig I set the auto locking on the GEM module
Whilst I had it plugged in I was browsing around when I came across the HEC module (Hybrid Electronic Cluster) and one of the option there was to read the Vehicle Odometer. I pressed the 'Read' button and it came up with a number that was not the same as what was showing on the odometer. It came with 48000 when the odometer is showing 31000.
Am I correct in thinking the the previous owner has somehow clocked the mileage back to 29000 to sell the vehicle as low millage when actually the millage is 48000.
I am concerned as if it is 48000, the service due dates will be different to if it was 30000.

I have been having the most annoying issue with Sync. From time-to-time it stops playing music. Initially it is still connected to my phone (iPhone5S and, now, a 6S) with the music playing as indicated on the Music app but no sound. Then it'll start saying the phone has become disconnected. This can persist for weeks and eventually will start working again out of the blue. When it is doing this is may or may not connect via the USB socket (sometimes doing the apparent playing music thing).

I took it back to the dealership and, sure enough, it connected fine with the mechanic's iPhone. So they assumed it was a fault with my phone. But since then I have got a new iPhone 6S and, after initially working, the same thing has happened again. I'm assuming if the mechanic's phone had been connected for long enough it too would have experienced the same issues.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Rob1990. I am also unable to access Spotify via applink. I believe it is due to the FordSync version in our MK2 2013 models.
After looking at the Ford UK website and other posts on this forum it would appear that there is no ability to update the sync software to allow applink.
The track names and artists etc are displayed if you connect your phone using Spotify via your phones cable to the USB port in the central armrest.
Personally all of my music and playlists are on a memory stick that I leave permanently connected to the USB port. Using the browse button I can select playlists, track name, artist, genre to play. Trouble is it always defaults to the radio when restarting the car but I can live with that.

Bought my Kuga (Mk2, 2ltr tdci, 180ps, 6speed manual 4x4) 9 months old and with 12k on the clock, now up to 16k and driving on the motorway at a steady 70 it will return 43mpg, around town it drops away with all the gear changing.

Because of the shape and the length of the metal part it's very akward to use. Shame.

I prefer the excellent suggestion from Woodman:

Whooops ! You might leave the robust key in the car to open the bonnet with, as the fob emergency key is more for use when electronic entry fails......not opening the bonnet. Apologies for assumptions made...the advice was the issue at hand not the gender.

But can you hear the actuator operate or not when you press, still a visit to Fords probably. If the actuator/ motor has failed I'm curious how they will open the tailgate.
