Depends how old your battery is.

New Kuga/battery then no it shouldn't.

Older Kuga/battery (say 5 years old) then the battery could be getting tired.

parked the car on a steep road facing upwards while picking the mother in law press the start button waited for the glow plug light to go out clutch in pressed the start button Then the car started to judder and vibrate and a loud banging noise the steering wheel was twitching but the engine didn't start to say I S@$%T myself was an under statement the only way to stop it was to press the start button again. It was as if something was cranking away causing the juddering/vibration but the engine would not start . so sat there waited five mins tried starting her again straight in as nothing had happen any got any ideas as to what may have caused it she goes in to the dealers next week so I think the tec is going to be very busy with the problems with the kuga
cheers

It's a 2011 battery so I thought it should be ok. Is four years that old????

Could depend on driving style.

Lots of short trips mean lots of heavy load starts with little charge put back in. Longer trips means fewer starts with lots of charge put back in.

Not saying it is the battery but it's where I would be looking at first.

Hopefully the technicians will know what this is and offer a cure, but it sounds like the engine management was out of sync with the engine. Those of us who remember an engine backfiring.

Yes I'd be looking at the battery as Morph says, even though batteries do seem to have a better longevity, there is often the few that fail earlier than we think they should.

The amount of energy taken out of a battery for starting is actually quite small (I think I've posted this before) and is soon replenished within minutes, but the battery may not hold the charge because of self-discharge.

Look at the amount of current you are taking out of the battery with the radio on for 20 minutes, its quite small but its enough to start your car if you dont put the radio or parking lights on.

You actually take more energy out of the battery when running the radio for 20 minutes than starting the car. Starting the car, 0.002kWh and radio 0.020kWh.

Ah, thank you Nobby. Am looking at mk2's for sale on Autotrader and parking sensors are a must - wondered if that was to switch them off and therefore an indication the vehicle had them if pics of front/rear aren't clear enough.

Cheers

Our tit x 163 2ltr dispel with Powershift has now 14500 miles and a 42 mpg is the norm. I was showing 50mpg the other week after a fill up and that was after 100 miles then it dropped as soon as we got held up

For the first time ever today after a fill up the total expected miles was 500!!

I'm really into the Kuga. I thought sports mode was pah when I first used it but it really does make a difference when setting off and is a lot sharper than D mode.

You can knock the sensors off. It's the button on bottom right row, second one in from the right. It lights when in use so just press's to cancel.

I've been looking at an '09 Kuga Zetec TDCi as a replacement for our '08 Zafira 1.9 CDTI 150 SRi and must say I was rather impressed. The car was very nice to drive with no knocks or bangs and was just wondering if there is anything to look for in these? I know with most modern diesels stuff like egr, dpf and dmf's give bother. Any advice wold be very helpful.

Just had a very strange occurrence today when parallel parking. I didn't need to use the Park Assist, but when I put the car into reverse, instead of the rear camera coming on, there was no picture, but a graphic came up, similar to the front sensors, together with the Park Pilot message on top of the graphic.
Taking it out of reverse, then selecting it again still brought up the same screen, but no rear picture.
Nipped to the shops, then after starting it up five minutes later, reverse gear brought the rear camera on as normal. Everything seems to have reset fine, but after doing a search on here to see if there's been anyone else with similar issues, there doesn't seem to have been.
Any idea's? Confused

I've had that a couple of times, the last time maybe three months ago, but I have no idea what caused it. After putting it into Park and reselecting reverse a couple of times, it was okay.

Don't know the colours but if you only need a small supply (satnav, camera etc) then I'm sure there will be both a permanent and switched (and for that matter a side light) supply behind the radio - well in the loom/plug that is supplying the radio.

Connect one side of a multi-meter to the body of the car (earth) and either test the pins in the plug or prick the insulation of each wire with a sharp pin and test with the other lead of the multi-meter.

Picked up my new AWD 180 Tit just before xmas, Deep impact blue looks really nice, thats if I keep it clean, big difference with the clutch in this one, its much lighter than the other one, nicer to drive especially in traffic. Feels more torquey too, but I expect thats all in the mind.Wink

This might be an obvious answer but did you put the battery in the right way round. I had the same problem before realising the battery was upside down.
