Yep, same problems with my year old 163bhp Kuga Mk2 AWD, 11,000 miles.

Perfect just driving the car, however hard I push it 3 up even, but put my relatively small caravan on the back, try to go up a bit of a hill - I'm in Wales so loads around - and 'Hey Presto' Engine malfunction light and the very, very dangerous 'limp mode' kicks in leaving you doing about 30 mph on the M4 with a caravan on the back of the car and various juggernauts up your backside or trying to storm past you ! Not nice ! Oh yeah, and usually raining - Wales again !!!

OK, AA fella [Ford Assist] found Mass airflow code fault - caravanning holiday now cancelled and £350 lost - but I'll be contacting Ford about that later !- went back to Ford who moved the airfilter itself around in the airbox a little and thought it was the problem as it was out of line a bit - I was scepticle - caravan on the back, no change when towing - same problem !

Back to Fords who changed the airfilter - tested the car/caravan combo again - you got it ! - still the same !

Back to Fords who then took a load of pictures for the main Ford Engineers and now they're changing the 'Intercooler pipe' today !

Hopefully that'll be it but they seem to be clutching at straws a bit.
I'll find out tomorrow if they actually found a physical fault with the intercooler pipe before swapping it - I would hope so !!!

If I get the car back tomorrow I'll be towing tomorrow night and let everyone know how I got on !

I'm also towing for holidays at the end of this month but have totally lost confidence in this otherwise superb car ! I'm just dreading towing the caravan - maybe should have kept my Shogun ! This has been going on for about a month. Oh yeah, Ford Director who had the car before me said it towed fine - only difference in car is the first service completed !

Ref limp mode - most times, but not all, stop for a few minutes and it returns back to normal. When it doesn't, you're stuffed !

Ref Bridgend Ford staff though - superb to be honest. Very helpful, keeps me informed, gutted that they can't find the fault yet but working hard on it. Thanks especially to Tom, Dean, Rob & Jess.

Mike

Good post Mike,
Sums up what quite a few mk 2 owners are going through at present with this particular fault.
Add this to a recent thread re power steering failure and begs the question why Ford haven't picked up on problems with 2013/2014 build awd 163's as seems to be the common factor.
Due to meet with our dealers ford service manager soon and will post his response .
We have a caravan to tow through France in Aug , need to have confidence that car is up to the task.

Yes you are correct even my dealer sales girl didn't know that. I queried the spec and she told me it was slip up on production line as with other extras. I have titanium seats as well. I will use mine on country roads, farm tracks and for towing caravan so didn't want low profile tyres for comfort reasons. But they do look better than my standard wheels.

Hi All,

Have just ordered my new Kuga (2.0TDCI FWD ginger Ale Titanium) but without the parking sensors as there was no vehicle available in stock with that configuration.  I have a couple of questions:

1) Do any 'post build' parking sensors interact with the Kuga's displays as with Factory installed Sensors (i.e. mute the radio and show a 'radar' on the display)?
2) Am I right in thinking that the correct mounting for the parking sensors is in the 'unpainted' section of the bumper on the MK2 (unlike the Mk1)?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Compared to Toyota (ha! ha! ha!) whose once mighty reputation quickly fell from grace almost overnight with many, many, issues and as a result they were plagued by recall after recall after recall
Ford's MK II Kuga is far superior (well except for dust caps/and some plastic bits turning white?) Kuga is not exclusively European anymore the Kuga is now a global vehicle and unfortunately Ford have failed to listen to their UK customer base, clearly Kuga MK II has been built around what US customers want which is very different to the features we previously had but have now lost, major items like the split tailgate which for me personally was a revelation but more importantly extremely useful? but sadly is no more, love it or hate it the lockable bonnet and not forgetting the little things like the dash mounted card slots which was a really handy place to stick your parking ticket in before you exit a car park and please don't ever forget the ickle "keep net" located to the right of the front passenger's knee, and it's just an observation but sadly we seem to have less leather now on the MK II Titanium seats?
And finally this is my third Kuga and I must say that the inside of the MK II Titanium (aside from those missing items mentioned) and with the re-positioning of the start button, Ford's MK II Kuga is a definite improvement and a really nice place to be.

Regards.

Bob.

Turns out it was the MAF, mass air filter not fitting right causing an air gap, top ford engineer came to my dealers to fix it after complaint to Ford UK, seems ok and towing well now!! They had my Kuga for 10 days, 180 extra miles, and half a tank of fuel used!! Got them to fill the tank again though!

Well Guys and girls here are my experiences of new car ownership over 32 years of driving. I have had a mixture of new and second hand cars, am I jinxed or just unlucky lol

1988 Vauxhall Belmont 1.6  On the way home from the dealers it broke down, back at dealers it was found to have sand in the carburettor  from the casting process in the factory.  At 6 months the timing belt failed because the bearing in the water pump wore up

1990 Daihatsu Sporttrak   At two weeks old the exhaust heat guard failed near the gearbox and fell off, At 8 weeks the central locking failed

1991 Mazda 626 2.0   At 3 weeks the exhaust mounting at the rear failed, at 4 months the clutch mechanism failed.

1995 Citroen XM 2.0 auto   At 3 months the sunroof failed, at 11,000 miles the oil seals on the valve stems failed, at 9 months the drop links on the front suspension failed.

1998 BMW 525 touring   at 48,000 miles the front drivers side damper failed, at 2 years the climate control failed.

2001 Renault Laguna 1.9 diesel  at 12,000 miles the alternator failed, at 28,000 miles the air conditioning failed, from about 6 weeks the trim started to self diss assemble its self.

2004 Land Rover Freelander V6 hse  See start of post lol

2007 Renault Scenic 1.6 Auto   At 21,000 miles the engine sensors all packed up on the top of the engine, one month later the drivers side drive shaft gater  failed, again from start trim diss assembled its self.

2012 Peugeot 3008 allure 1.6 tiptronic   at two weeks the start stop mechanism failed, at 1 month it failed again, at two months the door rubber on the drivers side started to fail, at 8 months the windscreen started to leak.

can anyone better that lol

I recently became a Kuga owner and I used Trust Ford in Craigavon, Co Armagh, Northern Ireland to buy my first Ford in nearly 23 years, boy have the dealers and the quality of Fords improved.  So far very happy with the car and the level of service from both the sales team and service department.
