Apart from plague in Slovenia does anyone know what the word Kuga actually means?

Keep....Us....Guessing....About

1) Claimed MPG figures?

2) Why the dodgy 4x4 system/diff isn't part of the service schedule?

3) Why didn't we all get a Thingy with our Kuga (use search option for an explanation of what a Thingy is)?

4) Why does a basic oil service suddenly drop from £250 to £99 once the car is three years old?

5) Why do some Kugas allow water ingress due to half @rsed sealing of the bulk head?

6) Why do the tyres on 19" rims wear unevenly?

7) Why do alternators bite the dust 1000 of miles before they should?

etc etc etc

I'll blame this reply on being laid up in bed, pain killers & boredom

Great answer though. My handbook says that the awd system is sealed and maintenance free. I didn't get a thingy either.

1. MPG figures are gained using a standard test that all manufactures have to use. It's not really Ford's fault you cannot get these figures in real world driving. Prius owners have tried to sue Toyota over their claimed MPG figures.

2. Ford did not make the AWD system. Haldex did. They supplied a sealed for life unit probably as requested, to keep maintenance costs down. Again not Fords fault that it is not upto the job.

3. Thingy missing. Not really needed if you have privacy glass, so comes down to cost cutting.

4. £250 for an oil service!!!!, nearer the £150 mark. Simple answer warrenty. 1st year is down to Fords and the final 2 are covered by the dealer, so they need to cover this incurred cost somehow. Bump up the service cost.It wasn't that long ago you only got 1 year warrenty! So for the little extra it costs you to get it serviced your car at least has some warrenty (granted trim and other items aren't covered, but it's better than nothing)

5. Water leaks. That is ALL Fords fault and should not come under trim and only be covered for a year!

Those are my thoughts for the first 5.

I have had the Kuga in the dealer who has had the door panel off to lubricate and tighten components. The result is the noise remains and they failed to cure it and I am returning it again tommorow for the damaged trim they caused to be replaced. They state that this is the first instance of anyone reporting this noise.

I shall sort it out myself and report back in due course. I am into hospital now so will be a little while.

Hi Speedy,

Yeah the awd system is supposed to be sealed for life. Only problem is it's lifespan is less than that of the rest of the car!

Fortunately I have 2wd, a thingy as standard, tyres that wear evenly, no water ingress so far & my alternator still works. My spoof explanation of what KUGA might stand for wasn't based on my own experiences & was tounge in cheek. However it was based on the experiences of many users of this forum.

The humour appears to have been wasted on Morph though?

It seems the dregs of society will help themselves to anything they believe carries some sort of value, earlier today I read the following from Herts Constabulary:
Quote A number of new series BMWs have had their steering wheel and satellite navigation systems stolen over the last week in the Harpenden and Hemel Hempstead area.

Think the pump and tank are under the drivers side headlight.

Due to an unforeseen change of tow car, (currently a 2013 all new Mk 2 Kuga on a 63 plate, i will be removing my towbar for resale. It was bought in January2014 and is made by TowTrust. Its a detachable swan neck (lockable) which requires NO CUTOUT. The electrics pack cam from Right Connections and is included in the price, however you may need to sort a constant supply if you need to run any 12v while towing (fridge, battery etc). The 13pin socket also swivels up and is concealed when not neeed It has been used once and works perfectly with all the Kugas towing functions (subject to either a dealer activation or any competent towbar fitter. I made sure when purchacing that this bar and electrics meet all Fords stringent warranty requirements.
As my new car wont be available till 1st week of July im advertizing this early in case anyone is currently looking for a towbar but can wait till its available to grab a bargain.
Original cost of bar was £180.00 plus the electrics pack another £123.00. This is not an inferior towbar and kit that will invalidate your warranty or cause problems with the Kuga software.
All instructions will be supplied and apart from one use is as new. Copies of original receipts  available. I will consider a notional deposit via any payment method to hold the towbar till it is removed in July. Please message me and ill supply a telephone number if you have any questions. Price will be £200. Due to its weight it would be safe to say this will be on a collect in person basis, or im happy to help arrange a courier. No pics at present as hitch is in the caravan, but theres not really much to see anyway. Take the hassle out of choosing the correct towbar, ive done all the research and leg work for you.

I wont go into to much detail but all the faults listed here and other threads have applies to my 63 kuga, i have now arranged to exchange the Kuga for a newer model as it appears mine is a lemon. However, im now upgrading to a Titanium X which will be a 2014 build. Im not so much bound to secrecy how ive managed this but if youd like more info, message me. Current mileage is 4500. average mpg over that distance by logging fuel via my fuel card, 28mpg, well below what evn Ford would admit to.

Does this system work even if you don't "set tyre pressure" via the information display?

Had a Mk 3 Kuga Titanium powershift for a little over a month now and their are some aspects of Kuga 2 that I miss, the Split Tailgate for example and believe it or not the ickle "keep net" on the passenger side lower centre console, the sliding cup holder nick knack "cover" the extremely useful additional (2) under floor storage areas, in the Mk 3 the second one has either been deleted or carpeted over, parking ticket slots/holders second, Kuga 2 was much better than the Kuga number one, however I have read other members mention ride is better and quieter, smoother but you know what I'm not sure about that, one thing is certain this Mk3 162/3 ps diesel engine is a lot more vocal in fact I could not hear Kuga 2's 163ps diesel and when you put your foot down my new Kuga engine has a kind of "motor boat" exhaust note to it, seats are slimmer, and after a recent trip to Southampton and back I don't think they are quite as comfortable, yes, yes it's longer so more room in the boot, but it's all subjective but the Focus type dash is a welcomed improvement shiny piano black was probably not the best way for Fords interior designers to go but it's modern and functional and my guess is that they were attempting to get into the Guinness book of records by designing a radio with the most buttons on any car radio in the world, they succeeded, generally Kuga Mk III is better to look at but when you factor in what Ford have dropped it's really a missed opportunity and as this is a Global Kuga my expectations whether rightly or wrongly were higher, but that said it is still a very nice vehicle, but hey what's your opinion?

Bob, update your signature lol.

Pretty much agree with most of your points (have said most of them myself to you before)

But I don't know why, I can't put my finger on it. I just prefer the MK2 Kuga. Had 5 Mk1's from Zetec 136's to Titanium 163's and I still think this is the best one yet.

Power steering fluid checked ok. Also checked electrical connections to pump and again all seemed ok.
Still searching for an answer. The message has been cleared and the power steering is working but as others seemed to have found out it will return.
There must be answer some where:-(
