The 'flat battery' could just be the mystery phenomena of something remaining on that Ford dont know about or are unwilling to divulge. But, as Tarmo mentioned above and what I was sort of hinting at was, is there a sudden lack of available 'charging power' due to a voltage drop because the alternator cant deliver.

We are into the cool morning and particularly if its a Diesel the electric cabin heater could be drawing current so adding some considerable load.

So does the message appear when cranking the engine or after the engine has started?
