Hi phoneman. Are you sure the washer jet isn't behind the blanking plate.
On my Qashqai the jets were behind a blanking plate that would pop out and spray the headlamp when activated (every third washer activation).
If there were no jets then there was no blanking plate.
I would assume the kuga would be the same.
