Subject: Mk2 Kuga fuel consumption / Miles Per Gallon MPG

Its long been know that the official figures are encouraged by various means, however, I've posted the following before, even where official figures between vehicles are the same (see 2008 Mondeo and Kuga) it seems the real world figures dont match.
2008 Euro 4 140 psiMondeo 37.2mpg 57.6mpg 47.9 mpg Real world combined 46mpg
2014 Euro 5 163psi Kuga 39.2mpg 55.4mpg 47.9mpg Real worldcombined 39mpg
2014 Euro 5 163psi Mondeo 46.3mpg 67.3mpg 57.7mpg Real world combined N/A
2014 Euro 5 150psi 2.2 CRV 42.2mpg 53.3mpg 48.7mpg Real World Combined 45mpg
The Kuga is 100kg more than the Mondeo and theCRV is almost 50kg heavier than the Kuga. I think from the above, there is noreason you cannot compare the official figures as a guide to what real worldfigures you could expect.
Fords reason for the difference in real world figures of the 2008 Mondeo and the Kuga is driving style (Initially they said I cant compare the to vehicles but I reminded them that they have compared them by putting them through the same test and publishing the figures). So even where the vehicles come from the same manufacturer dont expect the same real world figures, even though as Ford says in their sales brochure for the Kuga, that the figures are there to provide a comparison between different vehicles and different manufacturers. So what happened to the figures to arrive at the same between 2 vehicles but in real world they are no where near the same. There it is in black and white but Ford say its driving style even though I've driven the same journey best part of 80,000 mile in the Mondeo and achieved 46mpg and the best part of 16000 in the Kuga and only get around 40, I must be driving the Kuga totally different to the Mondeo. The best bit is, it seems that the majority of the members on here drive in a similar style to me because similar mpg is being achieved.
I know some seem to be getting a much higher return then I would agree its driving style but my comparison is real world same journey between 2 vehicles and I have no reason not to expect the same return.
Please note though, that since the PCM recalibration, on my 140mile round trip these past 3 days the average mpg has increased by 1.8mpg.
Oh nearly forgot, its still a great car to drive.
