Subject: Remove and replace headlamp unit woes!

You may have changed your headlights by now but this is how I removed mine a few weeks back.
First off you need to remove the trim around the outside of the wheel arch.
There's a couple of pin type fittings that need to be removed at the lower front and rear of the trim. Pull the centre of the fitting out and then remove the whole fixing.
The wheel arch trim then just pulls off but needs a bit of force as the clips that hold it on open up inside their mounting hole. I found the easiest way was to pull the trim with one hand and whilst under tension push the side of the white clips carefully with the end of a screwdriver. I can't remember exactly but I think there's about 10-12 clips.
If you have front parking sensors you obviously have to also remove the electrical connector from the back of the sensor.
With the trim removed the wheel arch liner needs to be removed next. Again, it just pulls off but has a number of 'fir tree' fixings which take a bit of brute force to remove. There's a couple behind the wheel which are a bit awkward to get to (unless you jack it up and remove the wheel). I just pulled hard at the liner and it eventually came off.
You can now get to the bolt at the bottom of the light. If you look up from the wheel arch towards the light the bolt can be seen. Its horizontal, positioned across the car.
Undo the light's two top mounting bolts and the electrical connector and the light is ready to come out.
It still won't come though as you have to slacken the grill trim on both sides to get sufficient play in the trim to manoeuvre the light out.
Hope this helps - its a bit long winded but its how I remembered taking my headlights out when I fitted my DRLs.
