That's what I posted several months ago and could suggest that Ford did not include the wind resistance in the official test and could account for comparative figures at low speeds to the Mondeo where drag has less effect on consumption, the Mondeo having a more streamline shape so lower drag and less effect on consumption at speed. Local miles which is up and down hills where we are, gives around 38mpg.
I am not convinced the fuel flow into the engine is controlled as well as it could be. I use cruise control quite a lot as I'm 80% on motorways (exactly the same journey as in my Mondeo), just look at your instantaneous fuel consumption when your on a flat and level road (I use the A17 when its quiet). Does it jump up and down quite dramatically? Not saying this is one issue, but its a little disconcerting when the display could be a little more meaningful rather than the driver having to average this out in their mind.

![]() my driving as heavy right footed and the further time goes on I think the Powerdrive gearbox & the 163bhp engine are taking a disproportionate toll on the mpg which to me is a Ford fault not mine. However am still at a loss to reconcile the consistently poor mpg on my normal, short trip, driving mode and the long distance journeys I make, mainly on cruise control, which is almost the same!! ![]() Thanks again. ![]() |
