Oh that certainly is an interesting issue. What I remeber when I bought my Kuga, is that I told the sales person what I like to have on the vehicle and then we talked about the trade car.
We got across and both of us had a good deal.
Take this aspect:
when you want to get much out of the trade vehicle you don't get a big rebate on the new one.
when you like to get a huge rebate, what you surely can get, then don't expect to get much for your trade car.
so if you get much on one side you get less on the other.
so just make it a win win situation, let the sales person make both offers and then you get back on a discussion of adding this or that to the Kuga and try to either reduce the price of the Kuga by getting something for 'null' or increase the price for your trade car.
I go this way all the time and doing pretty good meanwhile.
