Hi Merlin,
The auto dip/main beam is selected within the Settings menu. To get to this, use the left hand multi function control on the steering wheel. This uses the display between the speedo & rev counter. Using the up/down, left/right control, you should find - Lights - Auto Dim (select On) - Sensitivity (I have mine set to High). You can experiment with the sensitivity, but I think anything less than high might possibly dazzle oncoming traffic. The downside to having them set to High is that they sometimes dip when you don't want them to, such as if they pick up reflected light from signposts, lights that aren't even on your bit of road, a believe it or not, even bright moonlight.
You can still override the auto function using the stalk, as it resumes the auto function once you've dipped them again.
Hope this helps,

Trev.
