My experience so far is that the fuel affects the 'pinking' sound, but not too much.
I normally use Shell V-Power, but I also tried FuelSave as well as OMV (both premium and standard), as well as some local brands in Bulgaria. None cured the sound completely, but V-Power gives me best economy and power so far.
After reading a bit about EGR valves and such I'm starting to connect the dots. The sound is only apparent with a hot engine and is accompanied by a loss of power. The EGR only functions with a hot engine and lowers power output.
At this point I'm willing to try an EGR blanking plate just to rule it out. Anybody tried this on our engine (DW10C/Euro V)?
